Hit a new training 5k PB tonight. 17:58.5. Had nothing in the tank the last 1000m. I was sick all last week and missed a few ergs and had a rough one Friday night. I’ll take this one tonight.

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
17:58.5 5,000m 1:47.8 279 1260 28 171
3:35.7 1,000m 1:47.8 279 1260 28 159
3:35.6 2,000m 1:47.8 279 1261 28 170

Not sure if it was that quick ....but I’ve only done it once so it’s a PB!! 🤣

50km on Saturday morning. Took me 4:36.02.2 😅🚣🏻‍♂️🚣🏻‍♂️

Don’t have my own erg but my fantastic gym have loaned me a rower each lockdown 🙂, my PT was my support crew and he cycled along at home and we had some ‘zoom’ check-ins. He joined me for a sprint finish!!

Training for a 100k attempt to celebrate when the gym can open again - hopefully not too long 🙏🏻

It doesn't matter how long it took, not many of us have ever done a 50k, so just completing is an achievement to be proud of, and your time is something to also be proud of. Well done.

Not a standard PB, but it's a PB for me. I've never managed to go sub 60 mins on a 10 mile session for anything under r26. I had the day off yesterday, and I felt rough. I still felt a bit rough today, but I was inspired by a few fellow ergers to put in a shift this morning. HRV gave me a 10/10, so it was a roll of the dice, and HRV won.

Mind games were all too present from 40 mins onwards but I managed to wrestle them under control. Now I just need to do it at r20.

Nice session Stu. I've become bored with testing HRV, not sure about its worth.

Whilst I have never measured HRV, I don't think I ever will due to the inconsistent results most of you guys get.

I've tracked my HRV for 21 straight days & at this point, I can say it's become a habit. It's been useful to curb my ingrained mind-set of "Damn the topedoes, full speed ahead!!"

Especially useful now being the primary care-giver to my wife, if I end up having a poor night of sleep. It's another metric I use to confirm that I should back off or take a day off. I guess for most people, it's a no brainer. But after a lifetime of pushing the envelope, it's a useful reminder that says to me, "Back off, you stupid little git!!!"

It does seem to be divisive. I generally use it as a good reason to stop me making excuses if I'm feeling tired, and also, as Eric says, a moment to reflect if a hard session is a good idea.

In reality it's not really telling me much that my intuition doesn't already know, but it has a use, albeit it shouldn't really dictate your decisions.

Well done Stu, very strong! Looks like a sub60' R20 is already in reach as you can do it at almost 1'' slower pace than this R22 effort :)

50K is a big deal...I never tried it (need to), so finishing is great! You need to give us more detail about any breaks you took and did you take drinks eat a snack as you rowed....

Very strong Stu!! You have really become comfortable with lower stroke rates, I remember when you couldn't even think about keeping that low of a rate for that power/speed.
