Target AN 3x1.5min/faster than 1:41/36spm/1:30min rest

Not happy with this one - struggled to keep the first two below 1:41 pace. The third one was bad, pace fell to 1:45. Felt winded and stressed. Legs felt fine. I felt jittery, like before a race. Supposed to do one more AN 3x45sec before Sunday - I may bag it and do some easy stuff to keep the blood flowing.

I am racing at 10:15, Heat 6, race line C, Erg 58.

Very jittery today....
Last workout before race is 3 x 1.5 AN.

I'm at 2:30 (heat 23) on erg #6 next to another girl named Carla, and 3 ergs down from us is another Karla. So if you yell "go Carla" at 2:30 you will be a very efficient cheerleader!

How do you know what "race line" you are in? I don't see that on the list.

Carla--

What've you got to worry about? You've done the work. You're going to go fast.

I'll do my final session tomorrow (3x45") and drive to Boston Sat afternoon.

Best wishes to all. See you at the races.

Erg #16. They've set me up to get hammered in the fast group, rather than allowing me to paddle along with my peers. I think the seedings were based on '06 results rather than self-submitted scores.

You may be right. May go back even further. I have a friend who did really well 3 or 4 years ago but is about 45 seconds slower after taking several years off. But she still drew a top 5 seed.

Are the seeds listed fastest to slowest with no exceptions? I would have thought based on my 7:10 time and looking at results from '05 & '06 that I'd be lower in my heat.

I believe the idea is that each race should look like a skein of geese. So, for example, in the women's heavyweight 40-49 "A" heat rowers 1 & 16 figure to be the slowest, 2 & 15 the next slowest, and so on until you get to the middle where you have Tracy Axten who won last year pulling 6:58. She's the lead goose of the first group. Erg #17 would then be a flanking (slow) goose of the next group.

Yesteday they had "seedings". Today the website has "seating". I went from seed #45 to seat #35. Forgot to see what my erg assignment was on the seeding chart but I think it changed. No big deal. Just going to show up and pull. How hard can that be?

Noon today:
Yet another 2 x 5K. Felt really good on the first one so kept the pace and rate up. Logged the meters and found it was a personal best (not that I ever really time trial that distance - but was right on par with my best 6K time). So much for tapering. Second 5K I was more disciplined @ 1:59.

:D Last workout before the race. I feel pumped (right now) but have to admit I got the willies so bad this morning on the way to work I was almost in tears.

3 x 90" AN
targ 1:46

423 1:46.3/37
422 1:46.6/35
426 1:45.6/36

I feel good about this as it's the fast pace for this band and it wasn't that bad. So short, I guess. I don't really know what good this kind of work out is except it does make you feel like you can get the lead out once in a while.

goal for next few days: stay hydrated and rested, stretch a lot, and forget about the whole d*** thing until Sunday at 2:30.

Results of the participants on this thread (hoping that I'm not missing anyone):

Will Haskell 6:58.2
Fred Dickie 6:59.7
Jim Coggeshall (Coggs) 7:02.3
Mark Pukita 7:10.7
Tom Rawls (TomR) 7:14.7
Carla Stein (seat5) 7:27.4, Bronze Medal!
Bill Burke (kipkeino68) 7:43.0
Ben Rea 7:46.8
Kinley Gregg 7:54.4
Bob Spenger 8:00.2, Silver Medal!

Some PB's, some medals, some disappointments. Although from where I was watching (on the sidelines--boo hoo) I didn't think that anyone should feel the need to be too disappointed. I wasn't even too disappointed myself, since I was on the sidelines as a volunteer, which is the next best thing to competing.

Well done all!

Since many of us were racing at or close to the same time, I only got to watch Carla and Kinley, who both pulled great races. If you look at their splits, you can see they went out smart and closed fast. Well done.

It was a good day at the races. Rick looked stylish in his orange Crash-B t-shirt. I look forward to seeing him on the erg, along with the rest of you, same time next year.

>>I got 134th out of 152 ....does that mean i suck?<<

You would suck more if you hadn't bothered to compete!

And just think. If you had been faster, it would be even harder to come back next year and improve on the time. You will be back, won't you?

I had a great time. Thanks to all the organizers and volunteers.
