If I can get this training done, and then the strong AT 2K that it predicts, then I will be ready for distance trials and hard sharpening over the next couple of months.

Mike thinks that rowing well is a "trite" training goal.Byron Drachman wrote:Hi Mike,
I don't think Ranger will ever get the point. I agree with you. It should be possible to talk about training goals without resorting to silly, pompous writing.
Byron
This isn't a matter of clear vs. pompous writing.
Mike's claim is foolish.
It's a matter of bad judgment on the most important issues in all of rowing.
His choice of training, and his resulting 2K, tell the rest of the story.
Fact:
It appears that 39 minutes a day at an average of 2:00 per 500m, pulling 10 SPI, won't get you anywhere near a WR, even among the old folks in the 55s lwts.
It just makes you worse.

That should tell a certain sort of story.
The rest of my rowing over the next couple of months will be reported in IND_V trials and entered in the lightweight rankings.
Nonetheless, I repeat:
I am not training for any particular race, or season.
I am training to be the best I can be.
So far, my training is coming along great.
I am already the best in my age and weight division both this year and last, and there are still over two months to go in this indoor season.
I am now doing all of my training between 30 spm and 40 spm.
As a result, my 2K time is still coming down precipitously.

What are we talking about here.
I agree: "To row well is to be efficient and effective."
I pointed out that this is a trite observation.
Your answer: More insults... how dull.
or, is this a way of deflecting the subject away from the fact that you do row 5ks and don't report them.
Have the exchanges on this topic become merely mudslinging exercises?
Why won't you share times with distances as others do?
Looking ahead: When is you first race on the water this summer?
Pardon all the questions: Were in the midst of a 2' snow fall and everyhing is "on hold" except the internet...
I was hoping you'd come up with something new.. besides
1. SPI
2. When fully trained
3. Detroit (maybe)
4. Chicago (maybe)
All of us know this stuff.
It would be great for you to dust off your records of 100 million meters of rowing and report an effort that you thought wuld be interesting to us...
Are there any?

I just pulled 6:48 for 2K at home (and posted the screen shot).
Then I jpulled 6:41.4 for 2K in Cleveland--in a race.
I am racing again this weekend in Chicago.
I think I will now pull sub-6:30.
Then the next weekend, I will race in Detroit.
If things go well in Chicago, I think I might have a chance to shoot for 6:24 in Detroit.
This is "sharing" quite a bit.
All of it is public, all of it fact.

Your definitions stink because of the location whence you pulled them.ranger wrote:

No, I don't.mikvant52 wrote: you do row 5ks and don't report them
As I have told you, if I do 5Ks, I report them; and I will indeed report some over the next couple of months, when I do them.
I think I can now do 1:39 for 5K.
In training, at least lately, I usually just do "free" rowing, independent of the clock.
I don't time myself, as you do.
I just row for an hour, or 20K, or whatever, with constant attention to efficiency.
The goal is not to row fast, although I am indeed rowing pretty fast, but to use my training as an opportunity to learn to row efficiently.

I usually get a dozen seconds over 2K from hard sharpening.
I also get a dozen seconds over 2K from distance trials, which I haven't done yet, either.

How do feel about being beaten by a slip of a girl who doesn't train as much as you, Rich?
Mike is a better rower than you. That's incontestable.
Rowing is a sport where an individual or teams use oars to drive a boat through the water.
What you do is called ERGING.
Well, even though I haven't even done distance trials or sharpening yet, my 6:41 2K in Cleveland was the fastest anyone my age and weight has ever rowed.mikvan52 wrote:It would be great for you to dust off your records of 100 million meters of rowing and report an effort that you thought wuld be interesting to us...

I suppose that's something.
After another week of training at high rates, I hope to get another ten seconds or so over 2K this weekend in Chicago.
Then perhaps another five seconds in Detroit.
So there are good things ahead.
