Thanks! I just use a folded towel and moan and groan a lot. LOL
I just accept that it's going to hurt a lot and then go into the pain. I'm on a mission and can't quit now - I've got a 100km row lined up for June 19 and that gets me through the hurtin'

I heard that bubblewrap works wonders - but I still haven't tried it yet.

Pulled out a quick 10K this morning that was supposed to be a training row. It is funny how you never really know how a row is going to go until you get part way through. Managed a Sub 38min which was a 20sec improvement. Just in time to make it even harder for myself next season ! :D

This year's erging has help me with my On the Water goals.

Yesterday I went under the 1:40/500m pace, albeit for just 350m in a tailwind (at 38 spm)

I recently did a 1:42.x 500m (also a best). My rate there was 32 spm
3 Crash-B hammers
American 60's Lwt. 2k record (6:49) •• set WRs for 60' & FM •• ~ now surpassed
repeat combined Masters Lwt & Hwt 1x National Champion E & F class

Not all attempts at PBs end successfully. The following is another in a series of my recollections of workouts or test pieces that did not go as planned. For background I am a 53 YO LWT. This is how I remember it:

OK last day of the erg year and now is the time to get a PB in 500 m. Last year I did a 1:34.8 and my SB is 1:35.9. I will aim for a 1:35 and see if I can get under it.

0-100 m. Good start, pace is coming right down. Hit 1:35 after about 5 pulls. Cumulative pace = 1:36

101-200 m. Hold the pace. Whoaa seeing a few 1:33s here. Take it easy kiddo this is a long 500 m. Split = 1:34. Cumulative pace = 1:35. Right on target.

201-300 m. At 250 m only about 45 seconds to go. Split=1:34.5. Cumulative pace = 1:34.8. Headed for a PB! I can hold any pace for 45 seconds.

301-400 m. I can’t hold this pace. Split= 1:36. Cumulative pace = 1:35.1. PB is slipping away but SB is in view.

401-500 m. Ok who stole my quadriceps? I left them exactly between my hips and knees and now they have been replaced with silly putty. My knees are going up and down but I don’t know how. Rowing with biceps and rating is up to 51 SPM. Split= 1:41 and cumulative pace = 1:36.2. Even the SB is slipping away. I am seeing a few 1:44-1:45s now and that is my 1K pace.

500 m. All over. Time =1:36.2. Not a PB and not a SB. Grab my watch and HR is approaching 200 bpm! Well there was nothing left in the tank. May be a little too ambitious in the second 100 m. Time to rest and recover.

Got a new 2k Personal record. 7:30.5 down from 7:36.5. I feel like a beast right now from the adrenaline I still have of beating my teammates. :D

PR on the HM - 89:37. The first one is always a PR and that is a very soft PR for me...

congrats Paul, just going for 1 and a half hours is tough. I want the 85 minute on that but pulling 2:00/500 for that long for me is toooooough.

Hi
I'm new to this forum. Been rowing since september '09. The last couple of days i've done these PB's
500 m - 1:37.0 (found my longs on the monitor)
4 min : 1.154 m
Other PB's:
2.000 m - 7:38.4
10.000 m - 39:36.8
hm - 1:29:18.4
1 h - 14.450 m
I find thes pages most inspirational. Over the next couple of weeks i will attempt to improve the last 4 PB's.
