Haha, nice to proudly log in and post My sub 20 5k only to note that this seems to be a 5k weekend. Only the three other entries are in the sub 19 and sub 18 region. You guys are strong, congratulations!

Been a couple of years since I posted on here but I have been lurking. Kept up with rowing but not pushing hard and took a few months off last year. Last 6 months I have been training hard again (weights and erg). I've dropped a decent amount of weight (20lbs/9kg) but kept or even built muscle. Anyway, I am pleased to say I set my first new PB in 2.5 years today by knocking 6.9' off my previous 5k PB (18.24.9). This was my result:

18:18.0 at 1:49.8 and my 1k splits:

1.50.9 r27
1.51.1 r29
1.50.7 r29
1.50.1 r29
1.46.0 r31

Hopefully my 30 min (7,968) and 10k (38.29.0) are in reach soon.
Welcome back Rob, and well done

Well done mate, really good result. Big chunk to knock off.

If this was only a sighter, and based on a lot of recent restricted training, then breaking 18 may not be so tough with some dedicated training. That last 1k shows the potential is there.

Boom. Look at this. Very nice work Alex. Very, very quick last 1km, too. New stronger stroke is doing wonders.

Woohoo! After your great 6k I was sure you'll have a new PB, but 13'' faster is A LOT! I'm very happy for you, you really deserve this, and it won't be the last PB :D
Much appreciated chaps 🙏
The support and inspiration on this forum has been a large factor in me continuing through the last 6m of long slow rows.

HR did hit max today (186) so in terms of perceived effort this was right up there. I'm sure with some more dedicated training I can eek out a bit more.

Stats looks better than it felt. I guess I am not used to a sustained “harder” effort. I had decided to see if I could stay under 2:00 and it felt like it would be really hard after just 500 m because 5k just felt so long, but it kind of did not get harder and I had some left in the tank last 200 m.
Well done Stefan 👏👏

Opened up the engine this morning for a hard 5km. I had intended for this to be a sighter to gauge where I am but it felt good so I carried on and was over the moon to knock 13s off my old PB 😁

Well done you gents. Clearly it's 5k TT weekend.

Stefan, those are very good consistent splits. So satisfying to see "1:5x" rather than "2:0x". 7500m for 30' next target? It took me ages to get that one, but one of my most satisfying rows ever.

Rob, very nice indeed, although with the last 1k being 4 splits quicker, you probably had a bit too much left in the tank...

Did "5k weekend" a little early it seems, hit a 16:32.4 on Tuesday, a 9 second improvement from my last 5k on August 31st. Drag factor 121.

Image

Likely will only do one more 5k effort, plus virtual HOCR this fall, before moving into a steady state + strength training phase from Late October-Early January.

Thanks Max, yes it is a relief to finally be able to erg below 2:00. I actually feel a bit sore after that one, I need to get stronger otherwise I can only improve by increasing spm. 30 min is a pretty weak PB so I might do an intermediate one before really going for the sub 2.

Congrats to all recent 5k PBs!
Did one myself today :D

5k - 17:53.1 - -5,5''

After my 10k PB last week I was pretty sure to get another PB today, but as I have hardly done any interval training at 5k pace lately I started conservatively to see how I feel - it was not an as good day as the 10k PB day, but pretty good, had a good bit left in the tank at 1k to go and nicely paced up. No thoughts about HD during the whole effort so I'm sure I can be a good bit faster, maybe close to 17:45 on a very good day.
30' or 60' next
