My thoughts exactly.
I think it's now a matter of when, not if, Ian beats our PBs. I can't even say my 12hr PB is safe!!

Good news.....new PB for HM at 1:20.17

Bad news........I definitely had sub 1:20 in me. What a weird session. I decided to go out faster than planned pace (this has become a bad habit) and then see how I felt. Well, first issue I had a few stops to fix music issues with phone randomly stopping. However, even with that I was way ahead of PB pace with 10k to go but starting to struggle. Slowed down some but realized I could stay at slower pace and still PB. Then with 7k to go I had another music issue and it took about 10 seconds to fix. At this point I gave up on PB attempt and started gong even slower but again realized a PB was in reach. Then with 4 k to go I was right on PB pace with projected time but was struggling and again let my mind tell me to slow down, I did and thought last 4k could be a cooldown. Get to 2k to go and I realize I am still now not too far off PB pace and started gong faster. With 1k to go I now know PB in reach and go even faster and then with 500m to go I pull in the 1:30s the rest of the way.

So, I get the PB but was terribly paced with a few stops. I know I have stated music issues before and you might say just go without. I can do that with shorter rows where I dont even really hear it but for longer rows I need music as hearing myself breathe is a huge distraction.

Anyway, I know my fitness is better so thats a good thing.

Great stuff Keith, now you know sub 1:20 is on the table next time :) music problems are the worst, struggling with that myself too at times!

Well done Keith.. sounds like sub 1:20 definitely in reach.
We all have our routines and things that can derail a session but to PB even with the stops and distractions is very good going.

For me I can live with music stopping, video running out or Ergdata freezing. What really bothers me is the boiler switching on as I row in the garage where the boiler is. This absolutely drives me nuts and I have to stop and switch off the water and heating. I normally row late when they are off anyway, but if rowing earlier and forget to switch off before I start and they switch on I just cant bear it!

That's a cracking PB with you notably struggling for over half of it. I'm not surprised that you nearly HDed as you beat your PB by circa 37 seconds didn't you?

Make sure you rest and/or go easy over the next few days as this will have taken a big chunk out of you.

Well done Max, one split faster is a lot, and struggling through so many meters without HD is very strong! :)

Thanks all,

I was pretty spent after this but celebrated with a takeaway (sons' first ever takeaway curry :)). I had remembered my previous PB as not being that tough, but either I was fitter then or I'd misremembered - I suspect the latter is more likely...

Dino, no chance. I might have sneaked ahead of you on the shorter stuff for now, but your endurance is way better than mine. It might be something to do with doing 12x5k workouts!

Well done mate. I'm totally with you regarding music, it's far too important for me to not be bothered.

Sub 80 mins will not be an issue for you to achieve with a all of these issues you had.

No doubt you'll be sub 1:20 without the music issues. I totally understand you, a few k's without music is tolerable but a good bit of a HM is way too long.
You made significant fitness improvements, all your PBs from 2k to HM are beatable now (I expect the FM PB will last for a while  )

Great PB Keith, especially with all those conflicting thoughts bouncing round in your head.

Nice story about the music. I have always done without it - I just can't imagine a scenario where I wouldn't fly and die. A couple of bars into "Lose Yourself" or "Anarchy in the UK" and my brain would be telling me that I'm the result of some bizarre laboratory combination of Jonny Wilkinson's and Eric Murray's genetics.

I'd be thrashing back and forth at 36spm and would be lying on the floor in a sweaty heap within the first minute or two.

The splits look well controlled, but the HR tells the real story here. It felt a really really long way, and the last 13k were a bit a battle mentally. I very nearly HD'd with 3k to go. Probably wouldn't have tried the first trip to the gym for months on Thursday night if I'd remembered about this.

Feels like I've been booted up the a*se, and my traps aren't too happy when I try to lift my arms.

But hey, it's a PB (by nearly a whole split), albeit a painful one.
Fantastic new HM PB Max 👏👏👏

That more or less sums up my thoughts when a good tune comes on. Luckily I have managed to quickly divert those thoughts to something a bit more manageable

Cracked 18 minutes for a 5k. Never thought I’d be there 3 months ago. Also went over 500,000 meters for the season.
Negative split all the way through and the sub 1:44 for the last 500 makes me think sub 7’ for 2k is in sight. Although heart felt like it was bouncing out of my chest.
