Why is trying to row a lwt sub-6:30 a farce?

Isn't that what you would like to do?

I have already done it six times.

I'll be trying again tomorrow.

Is it a farce because you can't do it?

No chance. History just keeps repeating.

Baltimore, 2006.

6:29.7 @ 31 spm.
31 spm is not 30 spm and you were either a hwt... or you weighed in more than 2hrs before the contest.

Please....

I know... I've gone to Baltimore several times.. They have a history of assigning a pre-teen to do the weigh-in... as fast as people show up.
You know that. I know that.

This is not about me anyway; It's about you and 13 spi.
I have already done it.
 So out-do it tomorrow then if you are "better"... and have promised

The tape and other records will show what you'll do tomorrow: It will not be both sub 6:40 and near 13 spi.
Your 2nd class performance tomorrow will indicate once again that you are not as fast as a Roy Brook (55-59 lwt) or a Brian Bailey (60-64 lwt).

I am quite amused by your banter about rate limiting your 2k at BIRC. It shows what a coward you are.
You have no intention of ever going for broke. You are fully trained right now. Your time tomorrow will probably be the fastest you can go. Future ones will most probably be slower. This is because you are aging. There's no shame there.

"much better than that now" is a troll brag... that is all.

Do me a favor. Graph all the 2ks you have done at venues on one axis and years on the other. Do you spot a trend?
You are getting slower like everyone else your age. IOW: You are not "much (faster=better) than that now"...

Sleep well, race well. I hope that Paul Wenham gives you a run for your money.

No ... wanting to do a sub 6:30 2K is great ... you going on for years about being able to do it is the farce.

As a celebration of the big day (BIRC 2010) almost being here ... let's all listen to a song I think captures ranger's moment as well as any could ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldQrapQ4d0Y

Toby Keith (ranger does like to post his country mucis references) ... singing about being good ... once ...

I pulled a sub-6:30 2K when I was 55, at max drag, without even preparing for it.

I now row well (13 SPI) at low drag (120 df.), and I am again preparing to race.

Everyone gets about a dozen seconds over 2K from a couple of months of hard sharpening.

I'm not sure what rowing well at low drag is worth over 2K, but quite a bit, I suspect.

On other matters...

Made weight routinely.

Over to the NIA now.

Weigh in for me is in about an hour.

Then I have a couple of hours to eat, drink, and warm up to race.

I hope you remember to do a negative split - as to Hare and Tortoise. There's nothing (sorry, only one thing) better than really winding it up in the last 500.

2024: stroke 5.5W-min@20-21. ½k 190W, 1k 145W, 2k 120W. Using Wods 4-5days/week. Fading fast.

Great row from Nav, not far off Andy Ripleys record.

Looks like 7:02.3. I'd thought sub-7, even given his intermittent record.

R. Cureton: 10th @ 7:02.3

Let's save Rich some time and start the excuse list for him:

The machines were inadequate...I couldn't get the DF down to 50 where I usually row.
