If I can do 8 x 500m, 1:34 @ 32 spm, at weight, this weekend, I think it will be pretty easy to do 2K, 1:38 @ 30 spm, on Thursday, before I get on the plan for Birmingham, although, heck, I would prefer to see 1:37.

Of course, 1:38 for 2K is fine, though, for starters.

It is _waaaaay_ under the 55s lwt WR.

So 6.20 is now 6.32 in a few days  In this pace you get right on track to your true potential atm. 6.50 ish

if you can row 8 x 500 r3.20 at 139.5 you can. If.................. You have not show any interval row the last 7 years.

Not one !

I will enter any trials I do this week, including the 2K trial on Thursday, in the 55s lwt rankings.

yeah, you've been saying that for while, unfortunately, give that the first part of that message requires you to actually DO a trial, I don't think its too likely that we're goign to see anything in the rankings...

remember the full set of trials that were going to be done in september, before sharpening? Or have they slipped your mind.

This morning's habituation row:

20] 343m 1:27.4 pace 523w r35 (35 strokes) = 14.9 spi

Averages per PM: 321.7m (6434m total work distance), 1:33.2 pace 432w r32.2 so 13.4 spi.

Hi Henry!

Thanks for the link the other day.
Here's some follow up ideas:

(henry's link)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wo ... _in_rowing

http://www.universalsports.com/premium/index.html

http://worldrowing.com/index.php?pageid=91

on Nov. 11th at 2:18 pm (Lake Karipiro, NZL)
Event: Lwt Men 1x

Result:
7:05.82 Miani (6:13 2k erg in 2006)
beat
7:11.28 Stephansen (6:58 2k erg)

also note that the WB* in the lwt 1x is held by Zac Purchase who is a 6:14 2k erg.
*6:47.82 (wind aided)
GBR
At Eton in 2006 (when he was 19)
Zac Purchase

Stephansen was 17 then and pulled a 6:15.9 erg..

So we can conclude: Stephansen got faster on the erg… but what about the water?
Miani and Purchase are clearly faster there and remain so…

How can this be explained?
Well, perhaps we aren’t seeing Miani’s or Purchase’s best erg scores… but they are not under 6:00 like Henrik Stephansen.

I provide a Universal Sports link above (you have to pay to see in the USA) but if you look at the final from Lake Karipiro, you will see Miani and Stephansen in the same race (w/no favored lanes).
It is clear to me why Miani wins by such a large margin over HS…
Stephansen has an erg stroke. His body does not stay in the bow long enough through the release. An erger is rewarded for this; a sculler is not.

Does Stephansen ever say "I'm much better than that now" ?
Hi Mike,

I love the little Richard video. Speaking of erg vs OTW strokes, check out the bow seat in the German boat. Does her finish remind you of anybody? And isn't that fine rowing by the British? It is a free video but there is a short commercial you have to suffer through first:

Do you worry when a session wrecks your teeth?

:D :D

Nice goin' on the 20 1' reps.

I'll see if I can post something similar this weekend.

We are training at the same pace and rate.

You won't be able to post anything of the sort because you can't do anything of the sort and therefore won't even attempt to do anything of the sort. As for your "we are training at the same pace and rate," the odds that you're doing anything remotely meaningful at 1:33.2 r32 are roughly zero. That's precisely equivalent to the odds that you've actually set the date on your scale and your camera correctly.

Fraud.

I don't know about you, but I won't find a minute on, a minute off, at race pace and rate that hard at all.

This little "sprinty" stuff is a cinch.

As you say, it's mainly habituation.

Yes, it's a cinch. And being the coward you are, you will not sit down and prove it by doing the workout and showing the results.

It most certainly is NOT "a cinch." To assert the same betrays complete ignorance of what is involved physiologically.

??

Have you done 4 x 2K @ 1:38, 5K @ 1:39, 30min @ 1:41, 60min @ 1:44, HM @ 1:45, FM @ 1:48, etc.?

I suspect that these are the rub for you, no?
