I like to do at lunch. I find I workout better in the afternoon ideally, but lunch is second choice. I struggle in the PM (or too early).

Dean / Glenn - Very nice workouts! Impressive numbers.

Piers - I have similar numbers to you - 1:55.7 today as my goal - seems daunting but what the heck...

Smart SS's Lindsay / Sanz. Especially the day before the 1500 X 5. I probably went too hard yesterday on mine. Really foolish on my part the day before the intermediate intervals (I think the hardest day of the plan in general).

Nice work Adam. Glad you're back Barry. Hope you feel better.

Nice work Nick (Kxthor).

Tim - nothing but positives here. We've all started somewhere and it's a personal journey, not a competition. When it gets tougher is when you're 10 seconds behind someone you've come to know and then you push too hard not realizing that 10 seconds is an eternity on the 2K. That's more where being a bit slower matters more!

PP Beginners Week 3 Day 2

2x 2000m with 4 min rest - target according to Pete was a a couple of seconds faster than yesterday's 6000m (2:13.7)

1. 2:08.9
2. 2:06.0

Found it surprisingly comfortable after a real struggle with the 6000m yesterday. The second interval represented a PB for the 2000m. Beginning to believe that with a few more weeks training that magic time of 7:59.9 for the 2000m might just be achievable.

Nice work Gordon! Nice work Jack - both of you are looking like sub 8ers!

1500 X 5 / 5'
Goal was 1:55.7 (last round)

1500 / 1:55.3 / 28
1500 / 1:55.3 / 28
1500 / 1:54.9 / 28
1500 / 1:54.7 / 28
1500 / 1:52.6 / 29

7500 / 1:54.5 / 28

Sometimes I get surprised. Throat was a little scratchy on the way to the gym, I overworked (probably) yesterday, but yet really good session with a lot of surprising strength (for me) toward the end. I really pushed hard at 500m to go on the last one - was able to hold around 1:40 for nearly 20 strokes. Couldn't hold the whole 500 (which was the plan in my head...) but I didn't completely crash, which was encouraging. Though I couldn't hold that low for long, I didn't go above 1:57 pace in the final 250 meters or so, so it was a nice "sprint" to the finish even if not sustained. Much better, I suppose, to find this out now (that I can't sustain a 500m sprint when tired) versus on 2K race day!

Gordon, great stuff, you certainly knocked off more than a couple of seconds off there. I'm sure you'd be capable of sub 8mins now or very soon judging by your intervals, but let the plan run for a bit and get used to the lactic pain of the intervals, build your endurance and your confidence that you can do it which you'll need in the dark middle k of the 2k. I'd say avoid testing before at least week 11 is done as by then you'll have a good set of standard intervals to help judge your correct 2k pace.

Jack, another nice session, looks like you pushed that last one quite hard.

Mike, excellent work, impressed that you even thought about trying to go 1:40 with 500m still to go. I seem to be tail end charlie when it comes to posting times and it's really motivating and a bit scary seeing everybody take so much time off the previous times.

Week 3 Day 2

Wow, I agree with others on how much this thread moves. If you don't check in one or two times daily your bound to miss out on people's progress. I did what the BPP suggested and took a couple of seconds off my 6000 from yesterday. It is amazing to me how tough these longer intervals can be. Still moving forward though. Going to the gym tomorrow so going to take a day off the rower. I'll still check in though. Thanks mike and everyone else again for letting me be apart of this.

Nice SS Jack!

Thanks John - I foresee one of these times going down in flames. I think I'm delirious at times in my head with what I think I can do versus what I can actually do... This time it just didn't end up too terribly.

Nick - as long as you put in the work, all are welcome. Glad you're enjoying it. Good session.

Some more great form on the 5x1500 there from Dean, Jack and Mike - good stuff lads!

Nick - defo great to have you and the other BPP folks involved in the thread!

PP 2.1.4 - SS - 8,000m 34:55.1 (2:10.9), 20.8spm

I'm okay doing just the 8k on some of the SS days at this stage - I think the overall volume and intensity of the hard days are working well for me - also sometimes convenient to have a quicker trip to the gym.

HR today averaged 144 and peaked at 157, got to 140 quicker than most other rows - but only 43 seconds above UT2 so all good there.

Image

Looked at pace by stroke also - splitting this into buckets of 100 my most consistent section was actually towards the end at strokes 601-700 (took 725 in total) where I managed to get 95 strokes at 2:10, 2:11 or 2:12.

John, many thanks for your advice. You are right, even though my split times are improving, I am a long way off being prepared, either mentally or physically, for a 2k test. I am just going to keep strictly on plan and see where I get to by at least half way. The early rapid improvements brought about by the BPP tend to make you believe you are Superman but I know I still have a long way to go.

Looks like everyone is improving on cycle #2. Great job!

Glad to have you back, Dean. Next time, give us a little smile :D Especially after a solid effort like that!

5X1500 for me tonight. Result from 1st cycle was 1:42.7 at 24 spm. Target tonight was to be under 1:42 and hold 26 spm.

1:41.7 26 spm
1:41.7 26 spm
1:41.8 26 spm
1:41.7 26 spm
1:40.6 27 spm

Average was 1:41.5 at 26 spm
40 6'2" 205 lbs.
