@Brandon - get well soon, doesn't sound too pleasant, but take it easy getting back.

@Street - good consistent pace - hoping I'll be there or thereabouts when I get to the PP. Did you do the BPP first?

BPP 17.1 - 10500m at the same pace as last time I did 10500m (2:11.8).

Found this one a bit tougher than last time but improved very slightly on the time. Also my hands were hurting towards the end of this one, maybe because I used some hand cream a few days ago as the palms of my hands were really dry as a result of rowing. Maybe I sacrificed a bit of palm toughness?

Anyway...the end is in sight!

@rascott - that's still a good SS session. I always struggled with the BPP sessions longer than 10k. Must be a mental thing for me. Hang in there. I'm now done with the BPP and contemplating my next move.

First session back after being ill today: 30 minutes at 1:59.2 average and exactly 600 strokes (so rate 20). Legs feel a little weak, but I suspect that's simply because my muscles have stopped storing as much glycogen after almost two weeks of doing very little. Will do the same session tomorrow, then on Friday I'll do an abbreviated speed interval session to get a feel of how I'll cope with 4x1000m: if it feels okay I'll jump back into the Pete Plan week 3 to finish off my cycle.

Hello all!

I decided to stop being a lurker and sign up for an account. I have been following the BPP, currently on week 5. My times have come down every week as I get in better fitness but the 4.4 and 4.5 sessions last week were really tough. I ground them out and got them done. I will probably stick with a 2:18 pace for this week as my baseline. Cheers!

Finished 5.1 last night.

Yeh, I finished the BPP about a year ago and was doing some decent paces, however not long after I managed to get some frustrating injuries. I screwed my achillies in May then damaged the flexor unit in my hand around July which meant my rowing took a bit of a hit. I think I'm about back to where I was now at least. The BPP was good fun, but gets quite a grind towards the end, especially if you're doing the optional sessions. Not long to go now for you though! :D

Agreed and welcome polizei.

You mention your times coming down each week. Do you mean your average split (average time taken per 500m)? If so that's great, but don't worry if it starts going up again as the distance increases. Pete's own advice is to keep the same average split throughout the initial period of building up to your first 12km, but even that is pretty hard to do if you rowed your first 5k too hard.
Dangerscouse wrote:Good to hear that you are feeling better Tom, but take it easy and don't rush it
I would never rush it... so today I tried for a 6k PB

To be fair, my 6k is very weak - an average split of 1:53.3 versus 1:47.5 for the 5k and 1:50.8 for 30 minutes - so I thought it shouldn't be too hard to hit a 1:52 average for 6k. I HDed at around 4200m then HDed repeatedly afterwards until I gave up at 5k. I'm not particularly bothered by it: my main aim was to do some AT work and I did some AT work. I'll have another go at the 6k soon enough I'm sure.

Day off tomorrow, then some intervals on Friday. I think I'll have a go at 4x750m/4r and use them to judge whether I'm up to 4x1000m/5r on Monday.

Endurance intervals again for me. This is by far the worst session! Target was 1:55.4 but I have a thing for round numbers so pushed a bit. I just looked back through my logs and I did the same session a year ago today. I'm still a few seconds off the pace.. Getting there slowly though!

PP 1.3 5x1500/5'r
28:43.6 - 7,500m - 1:54.9 - 25
5:45.1 - 1,500m - 1:55.0 - 25
5:45.0 - 1,500m - 1:55.0 - 25
5:45.0 - 1,500m - 1:55.0 - 25
5:45.1 - 1,500m - 1:55.0 - 25
5:43.4 - 1,500m - 1:54.4 - 25

Polizei11 WTTF

BPP 17.2 - 8 x 500m / 2min rest

Stick to same pace as last time (2:02.5) and then go for it in the last session...pleased with this but finding the 1:45 required for a 7 min 2k a bit of a stretch!

Hi Everyone.
Like @Mike, I have also been lurking this thread to see how you all are doing, but am off the PP.
Tom, I also did a LOL (at work) reading your 'comeback plan'. Keep up the good work, all!

Well today's interval session was a wash. Looks like I've lost more fitness than I had thought whilst ill. I've got to decide now whether I want to start a full PP cycle from the start and take it a little easier in weeks 1 and 2 or abandon this attempt at a 2k. I've had some problems with my middle back and shoulder on the left hand side which are exacerbated by rowing and I had planned to ease back significantly on the rowing once I'd done this TT in order to focus on corrective weight training so I'm not sure I want to delay that by two to three weeks. On the other hand bagging a 6:40 2k is very tempting. Will have to give it some thought...
