Sub 7....did it!!!

Was supposed to be doing an interval session but decided to take a crack at a 2km TT as it was becoming something I was avoiding.

500 1:41.1@30
1000 1:45.8@28
1500 1:46.9@29
2000 1:44.6@39
Avg HR 175
Wrote myself a plan and followed most of it...start steady, hold 1:46/1:47, push last 400 and stay positive. Nearly blew it after going off fast, the inner voices wanted to quit when the estimated time tipped past 7:00 but I got through that and made it

. I have no doubt this had nothing to do with technique as I was all over the shop....gasping like a fish out of water

.... dragged myself to this milestone.
Appreciate the help you folks have given me to get this done!!!
For someone of your height/weight/age that's a good solid result...welcome to the club.

Thanks Paul.
I'm looking to add some mass in the coming months...mainly as people say I'm getting a bit stick like

....but also to build some strength for the erg.

Don't want to tell u stuff u already might know but focusing on compound exercises like the deadlift, squat, bench, overhead press, some kind of row etc twice a week will be best too. Get a slight calorie surplus going and >0.7g/lb bodyweight of protein and you'll be all set. Enjoy...

You are not a stick, but if you don,t have a potbelly and or have a fat ass in this world you stand out.

So true! In the UK the "norm" is slightly overweight. Alot of people I work with say I don't look 78kg i.e. quite a bit less because presumably I don't have a potbelly and you can actually see my cheekbones. I would try to explain that muscle weighs more than fat etc but you'd quickly mark yourself out as "someone different". People don't tend to like "difference".

Sub 7....did it!!!
Did it was loads of room to spare and a crazy fast first 500!
Beat the demons in the middle and finished well within time.
Great work.
Thanks....nearly suicidal pacing but just reigned it back in time to hold the middle 1000 before surging for home
Given that, I think your pacing was very impressive and shows great tenacity to hold on and then go all guns blazing (e.g. rate, pace) last 500. Mental fortitude for the win, as they say.

Its everywhere Paul, man look at the beach, what % does look “good”, not talking about super trained of whatever, but simply healthy, not overweight, not skinny fat. That % is low.
Re fat/muscle. That really matters, I believe fat is 20% more volume than muscle. So a fatter person is not only heavier to begin with, but on top of that has more volume.
Re face, when you are soft/round you look “ill”.....

I currently don't do any strength training so anything extra will help. Being a spindly fella I find the weight room at the gym a bit intimidating atm

I'll have to go late when the grunters have gone home

Don't be intimidated...having used many different gyms I can tell you that everyone is pretty wrapped up in themselves. I've use the odd gym in really rough parts of the city too and never had a problem. I can also say that there is rarely a correlation between how big someone is and how heavy the weights they are using. I actually think some on the guys at the gym I goto who are most likely on steroids don't really seem to do THAT much. We get all types - powerlifters (male and female), young lads trying to bulk up, competitive bodybuilders, gnarly old dudes like me, rugby types, short guys clearly compensating by growing outwards instead etc etc etc.

YES!!! This is such a big milestone to reach - way to go. Probably could take a few seconds off too with some different pacing but doesn't matter as you fought thru and hit the goal. Now you know you are a Sub 7 guy and can just build from there.

Why only "technically"? Looks like an outstanding piece of work to me. Well done.

Indeed it took some mental strength. Was in a dark place after about 2 hours, but surprisingly, it got better from there on
