I think this might now be my all time favourite Prof vPB! That's a seriously impressive row, I have to say. Well done!ranger wrote:Yea, I suspect that I probably can, although I haven't tried it yet.ginster wrote:so you can row 100k at 1.52 r20? WOW!
Of course, there is part of me that wonders if you could even do a tenth of that session at that pace and rate?
100k? At 1:52?!

500m/1:52 X 200 = 100K
200 X 1:52 = 6.2 hours
Add some bathroom time, start stop interval time, so round to 8 hours. Seems perfectly doable to me. I think I'll give it a go this weekend.

200 x 500m, 1:52 @ 20 spm (12.5 SPI)?
We await your screen shot.
That would be a lot of good work pulling 12.5 SPI!
Thousands and thousands of strokes.
_Very_ good training.

Re: Ranger's training thread
Simply not true. The factors that determine the mix of energy pathways you use in exercising have nothing directly to do with rating. They have everything to do with how hard you're working for how long. You can row "anaerobically" [sic] at (say) 16 spm if you're working hard enough.* And you can row "aerobically" at (say) 40 spm for quite a while if you're working sufficiently easily.feckandclueless wrote:It is largely raising the rate that challenges your aerobic capacity...

We've been waiting for years for a demo of the stupendous ranger aerobic capacity.
What's his IND_V 5k erg score again? as a 55-59 year old (any weight) ?.................
Answer: He has not recorded one IND_V 5k for posterity... in FIVE years (!).
This thread (as it pertain to ranger's performance) is w/o substance when considering distances beyond 2k...

Corolory, any distances (as they pertain to ranger's performance), except 2k's around 6:4x, with a lightweight stamp are w/o substance!

Do a 2K as fast as you can.ginster wrote:so if you haven't done it - how do you know what your natural stroking power is? Divide the watts by the stroke rate.
That will tell you your natural stroking power pretty closely.
Actually, if you are an experienced racer, you can do this with any trial and the result will be closely comparable.
Do a 60min trial.
Divide the watts by the stroke rate.
That's your natural stroking power.
Do a 10K trial.
Divide the watts by the stroke rate.
That's your natural stroking power.
Do a 5k trial.
Divide the watts by the stroke rate.
That's your natural stroking power.
Etc.

It's all so confusing. All this math.ranger wrote: Divide the watts by the stroking power.

(Watts/Stroking Power) = Natural Stroking Power Pretty Closely
Have I got that right?

I did a 500m trial at 1:37 and 30spm. I get 12.8 for my "natural stroking power".ranger wrote:

It's rather incredible that this is the largest topic on the forums. It's kind of entertaining to read. That's all - I have nothing valuable to add

Is that watts/watts? Or watts/(SPI)? Or WTF?ranger wrote:Do a 2K as fast as you can.
