Good going Martin...18:10 is more like it looking at your 10K. 30mins PB due for an update?
Thanks, yeah, both 10k and 30min need an update, I'll go for 37:15 and 8100 soon, but first I want to reach sub 18 at 5k :D
Sub 18mins is quite nice....even if I say it myself B) ...even better as a LWT

I feel like a lightweight....does that count

In reality I need to lose 3kg's to be LWT but my wife may then mistake me for a beanpole!

I hadn’t been rowing much lately since the Dog Days challenge ended, for any number of excuses. Had a rough night of sleep last night due to a super congested wife and a wandering 3 year old, so wasn’t looking forward to rowing tonight. But, our grocery store had a coupon last week for a free energy drink, and I drank it at work this afternoon. Sat down on the erg tonight planning to do 3x3000m, knowing I want to go for a while (longest row had been 9000m) but wasn’t sure I could do it in one shot. Decided to clean the erg first, then said screw it and programmed in a 10k.

47:12.9 10,000m 2:21.6 123 723 20
9:30.6 2,000m 2:22.6 121 714 21
9:28.9 4,000m 2:22.2 122 718 20
9:27.9 6,000m 2:21.9 122 720 20
9:27.0 8,000m 2:21.7 123 722 21
9:18.5 10,000m 2:19.6 129 742 21

Pretty happy with everything all around. The basement steps never seemed so daunting, however. 😀
Congrats on your first 10km....60mins maybe next

Periodisation. Go LWT, grab a few PBs while you're there. Then hit the gym/food, knock back the cardio and get swole. Everyone's a winner.

Really well done. Nice negative split too. First ever 10k is a big milestone. Bet you didn't think you'd be doing that a few months ago.

Yup. We've all been there (well, not your basement, obviously - that would be weird). Top of hamstrings is where it gets me.
Thanks! I kept feeling little niggles as to why I should stop, around 6k I thought maybe I'd break it up at 5k, then around 3.5k some dust or sweat got on the rail and I turned into a train on the track from the sound of it, but knew I'd regret it if I stopped.

Yeah, I think you got sub 18:00 - while another 10 seconds is a good chunk the 5K can still lend itself to a later speed charge to hit some numbers. You just keep improving across the board - keep it going.

If I was you I'd look at the 30 mins as there's a lot of transferable benefits to the 5k, not least as it's 12 mins more so it makes the 5k feel like quite a short distance

Totally agree, with a significant improvement at 5k I can be pretty sure to get PBs at the other longer distances too. Right now I'm on a roll for a pretty long time, hopefully this will last for some time :D

That's a good point mate, and as the 30min is my favorite longer distance (and the 5k definitely not  ) I'll go on with the 30min, then 10k. That will give me a few more weeks to raise fitness and confidence to go for sub18. Thanks!

Decided to test my 5k this morning. Took 33 seconds off my best with a 18:18. This was really unpleasant and I had nothing left at the end. Really pleased though.
