Better to start out on the conservative side than go out too hot and blowup somewhere... but yeah plenty left in the tank there! Still a real nice 5k PB time though non the less, congratulations Martin. Sub 18:15 is well in reach i reckonMartinSH4321 wrote: ↑July 5th, 2019, 6:43 am5k PB - 18:26,7

Started too slow, as you can see the last 1k was way too fast, the last 300m were at 1:3X pace, too much left in the tank. I think sub 18:15 should be possible, maybe sub 18:10.
Well done Martin. 5k does need a fair amount of confidence as it's easy to go too fast, and all too easy to go too slow!I agree you went off too slow, but don't be fooled by 1:3× pace as to you going too slow: I usually manage this sort of pace for the last 300m, like on Wednesday's 30 mins but I lay on the floor for a few minutes afterwards and I pushed it more or less as hard as I could have done.MartinSH4321 wrote: ↑July 5th, 2019, 6:43 am5k PB - 18:26,7

It was an OK effort, feeling 100% fit, but haven't done a lot of training at this pace, so I felt a bit unconfident. Started too slow, as you can see the last 1k was way too fast, the last 300m were at 1:3X pace, too much left in the tank. Nice to reach the 18:30 milestone![]()
I decided to work on my 5k PB this month and will do a TT every week (plus 1x long distance intervals, 1x short distance intervals, 1x weights and 3-4x UT2), I think sub 18:15 should be possible, maybe sub 18:10.
Nice one, pretty ok rating also, not bad to have a good endsprint, no need to really kill yourself, nicely start chipping away from here. Next time start a bit sooner to speed up. You now know you can.MartinSH4321 wrote: ↑July 5th, 2019, 6:43 am5k PB - 18:26,7

With more practice will come better times, confidence and fitness.
Thank you mates!
Well done Max... so close!!max_ratcliffe wrote: ↑July 6th, 2019, 1:12 amWith the "do not race your training" wisdom of experienced rowers front and central in my mind, I sat down to do an hour at HM pace.

24.00 2776 2.09.6 ("bit fast, but still conversation pace")
36.00 2785 2.09.2 ("hmm. I have no discipline!")
48.00 2811 2.08.0 ("going for the PB now")
60.00 2852 2.06.2 ("damn, the monitor's showing the force curve, no idea how far I've gone").
13983 overall at 2.08.7 22/m.
Two more strokes would have got me over 14k, but a PB by nearly 200m nevertheless. Perhaps I'll stick to my plan one day!
Hahaha, it's as important in my mind to not hold back if you're feeling it on a given day. There is no definite logic to it so you need to grab it with both hands when you're feeling good.max_ratcliffe wrote: ↑July 6th, 2019, 1:12 amWith the "do not race your training" wisdom of experienced rowers front and central in my mind, I sat down to do an hour at HM pace.
