I wonder how he fell off his step?
Did somebody moved it?
Did he forget it was there?

Sure, when I do my distance trials.rjw wrote:Oh, and by the way, if you are pulling 1:47 at 155 BPM can you post a screen shot?
The proof is in the pudding.
Your obsession with time over distance rowed ruins your training.
Training and racing are not at all the same thing.
Exercising a skil is easy.
Developing a skil is something else entirely.
If you race your training, you assume that you (1) have nothing to learn or (2) are incapable of learning.
Pretty devastating assumptions to be entertaining, given the relation between learning and performance in human behavior.
Good luck with it.

Re: Ranger's training thread
My right hand, arm, and shoulder are slowly getting better.
The tingling is starting to go away.
My grip is getting a bit better, good enough to row, at least.
Interestingly, because my grip on the handle is weak, I can still get very little peak pressure, only about 75 Newtons, down from my usual 120 Newtons.
In terms of 10MPS, I can only do 1:55 @ 26 spm (8.8 MPS), and even so, not for very long.
The whole upper reaches of my force curve are gone; therefore, my force curve turns trapezoidal again.
Efficient, sure, but massively ineffective.
This morning, I was pulling 1:55 with a HR of in the 120s bpm, rising to around 130 bpm; so I couldn't get much work done.
For me, UT2 is 145 bpm.
At 26 spm, I usually pull 1:48, or even 1:46.

Re: Ranger's training thread
I read through a number of pages of this thread, and I can't figure out the point of it. The first post is just a response to a previous comment. There is no real training-oriented value for the community here, and the whole thing just evolves into a lot of personal ruminations.
This seems like a blog that is inserted into a forum. Ranger, if you're looking to create a blog, I would suggest you consider making one at wordpress.com. You can sign up here - http://en.wordpress.com/signup/.
I think this whole thread serves no value under the training section.

You must be new here.sentinal93 wrote:I think this whole thread serves no value under the training section.
Ranger had a blog: http://concept2.co.uk/forum/blog.php?u=905 but he got bored with it as nobody bothered with his drivel. He also used to post on http://concept2.co.uk/forum but was banned from there for being a right royal PITA.
Best option is to simply ignore him and his correspondants on this thread. (If more of his detractors could refrain from posting this thread would wither on the vine.)

I thought you only fell off your step 2 days ago.
I hope the "tingling" stops soon.

Quite a bit better this morning, although I still taped my right hand to the handle and, even so, still couldn't get proper pressure at the catch.KevJGK wrote:"Slowly getting better?"ranger wrote:My right hand, arm, and shoulder are slowly getting better.

1:51 @ 27 spm (9.5 SPI) was coming along nicely, though, and I did 12K in all.
IF I can get a full stroke, I pull 1:43 @ 29 spm (11 SPI).
It loooks as though it might be a couple more days before I can get back to full power.

Re: Ranger's training thread
1:47 @ 28 spm for 60min would be a pb, my first since 2003, and would predict that I have now at least "re-gained" my pb 2K of 1:37/6:28, which is now 3.5 seconds per 500m under WR pace.
The 60s lwt 2K WR is 6:42/1:40.5.
1:47 @ 28 spm for a HM would predict that my 2K is now under the 50s lwt WR, even though I am only a half a year shy of 60.
From 50 to 60, the normal decline int he 2K for veteran rowers in 17 seconds.
The 60s lwt WR for a HM is 1:54 pace.

Oh, I don't know.sentinel93 wrote:I think this whole thread serves no value under the training section.
This thread, and others like it, which the forum has perpetuated in response to my training, have presented (1) an unusually original, ambitious, and prolonged course of training, (2) a certain line of dissent against training practices widely advocated and practiced by those in and around the forum, and (3) responses to (1) and (2) by the forum.
No value?
Hardly.
