Second time you did this not? Its still bizar fast, really don,t know how you pull that off. Congrats, next time you get the open record. Clapp is not overly busy with it atm
No, the first time I stopped midway for a short break as I was out of breath due to sinus infection/bronchitis  This time I missed the finish completely, I thought I saw 0m on the display..had to get the fan going again, last three pulls where 1:5x's. Need glasses I guess..
2:48 is on the plan and it should be possible already, but I want my 2k WR back now(Kristian beat mine by 0.3 sec :x ) Body is very adjusted to 1Ks now so need a bit of work to get back to the longer distances.
Did a 2k test run to get a starting pace to work with, low rate 1500m "warmup" then a sprint on the final 500m
Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
6:23.2 2,000m 1:35.7 398 1670 42
1:39.8 500m 1:39.8 352 1511 40
1:39.8 1,000m 1:39.8 352 1511 40
1:39.7 1,500m 1:39.7 353 1515 40
1:23.9 2,000m 1:23.9 593 2339 51
  I know when you can do something yourself its not a big deal, but for us ”just humans” this is pretty sick :D
That 2k is yours soon, unless you are hit by a bus. Not seen anybody master the skierg like you did. Your body must be strangle well suited for this movement.

My goal was >15k so I'm happy with that. What makes me satified is the fact that, after the first 10min, my HR and pace were pretty constant, no HR drift.
I'm sure I can get a bit faster, but nevertheless it was really hard!

Well done Martin. Confidence is a big part of the longer distances, as you know how hard you can push it without going too hard.

Thanks Stu! You're right, my 1st HM TT will be much easier with this information. I'll try to hold my HR at 150, hopefully with a pace of circa 2:01 and no break for drinking.

No need for a drink stop mate, that is your mind playing tricks on you and it feels far more acceptable to tell yourself you're stopping to drink. Push through and recategorise the feeling of pain and exhaustion as a good feeling, and not the time to stop and drink. You will feel better for it after you have done it, but it won't be easy to start with.

Nice  and on first attempt although looking at your 10k time not really surprising!
My first hour I barely scraped over 14000, and still have another ~350m to find somewhere before I hit 15k :?

I do take drinks on board for HM, but that's just me... you can get quite adept at a few strokes paddling with one hand, scooping up bottle for quick fill up, then picking up the pace again whilst swallowing the water slowly without losing much time, but if you don't need to, then so much the better when trying to set a PB!

A long way away from any of these PBs now!!

These 350m are about 5% more in terms of wattage, so with a lot of hard work it should be doable! Best of luck for reaching your goal!
You're right, when rowing with 1 hand for a few seconds it won't cost much time, so my plan B is to have a bottle aside, but it's still an interuption, so plan A is to be enough hydrated before the start (but without risking a toilet break) :-)

So, the 2k is done. Lord, it was ugly, painful, and I can't fully express how uncomfortable it was without polluting the forum with foul, unsavory words.

They say if you don't want to quit in the middle of it, you aren't working hard enough. So, I guess I was working hard enough.

My Personal Best, from February 2, 2019 was 6:38.4. Today, I got 6:37.0 (my monitor showed 6:36.9, but ErgData rounded up to 6:37, as did the PM5 monitor in the memory display.)

So, a tiny improvement of 1.4 seconds. I guess since it's only been 9 weeks since my last 2k for time, that's not too shabby.

It was by far, one of the ugliest efforts ever. They played one of my favorite songs, and I came out way too fast. The first 500 are always so deceptive; I tried to relax and get into a rhythm, but I never did. I thought I was going to lose control of my bladder and bowels with 600m to go; just glad it's over.

I plan to really train hard for the next one; with a lot more focus on power & technique. Rate was far too high in the beginning and the middle.

Still, #26 in the world for my age group (50-59) isn't too shabby. I'm confident that I can do much better, though. Just need a stronger cardio base.

:D 133 first 500, suicide attempt.

If I where you I would go again in a few days, this is wayyyy to ugly, even a few hd moments. Start at 138/39, not faster.
If you don,t do one again, you keep the feeling from this one, thats not good to drag along. Do one thats more controled.

I checked for this update as soon as I could this morning anxious to see how your test went.

You improved by 1.4 seconds in just 9 weeks so - great job!!

But, as you already know, you can do much better with proper pacing. I am as guilty as you (and pretty much everyone) of going too fast early during a 2k test, however I have never gone that much quicker than my goal pace in the first 500. A 2k is always painful and miserable but this only made it worse for you and hurt your time. I know you are completely aware of this and will use it as a learning experience, so just keep thinking you can drop more time with just pacing let alone training. Don't get to much lower though and force me to lower 2K time more. :)

Thanks. It was so..strange. I knew I was rowing too fast, my rate was too high. I tried to relax, but it was like an out-of-body experience. I was looking at the pace, the rate and knew I was too anxious, with too much adrenaline. Maybe too much caffeine! 3 and a half hours, and I'm still shaking a bit.

They started the row off with AC/DC, "Thunderstruck", and I got carried away, despite my brain telling my body to slow down and get into a rhythm.

I plan to follow Henry's advice and redo this - maybe this afternoon or Sunday. I know I can do better, and will.

I've also started the Dark Horse Coaching academy, and I think there's just a lot of information running through my brain, and I need to master the information. Kind of like taking two steps back to take 3 steps forward, if that makes any sense.

You are way too much like me!

I struggle to calm down and also have that "out of body experience" but have gotten way better. Even at the WRIC I did 5 hard pulls and then 5 to settle but realized my "settle" I was still in the 1:20s and had to take a breathe and force myself to calm down, which I did but its hard.

Then I am also impacted by music - especially classic rock and hard rock and that can be good in the middle of a longer row but during a 2K test I don't hear anything as completely zone into the monitor and what I am doing.

Finally, I did the Dark Horse Coaching Academy a little over a year ago. I am glad I did it and I did learned a lot. I met Shane farmer at the WRIC and he was a super nice guy. I know some rowing folks don't always agree with all Shane/Dark Horse coach and say he is a converted CF athlete (which he did come do extremely well in CF) but he was a rower and then really do a good job of teaching the basics of the stroke and how to identify issues and how to correct them

Maybe not the gain you hoped for, but still an amazing time - congrats!
I tried a 2k this week (but far slower obviously!) and did exactly the same, pulling under planned split for most of the first 500.. when you know you should be settling and paid for it with 350m to go. To my vastly less experienced eye, the mirror of the pace graph would be a better way round!
Congrats again.

BTW... did you do the last 15 seconds cutting the slide and really pumping the arms as you mentioned on the training thread... can see your rate goes up to 49! :?:
