Thanks a lot. I am going to have to try a few more distances now because I only have one PB in the bag for the new season.

Never done a hard 1K effort before so I'm claiming this as a PB :D
...a better one soon, hopefully. I think in the middle I needed to push on so maybe I could get down into the 3:15-3:16 sort of range which I think just goes to show a) I lack raw stroke power and b) I'm aerobically dominant. :o

@ Jimmy @ Erik and @ Paul, well done all of you for the PBs. All really good efforts.

I have never tried a 1k TT either so I might give it a go at some point.

Decided to see if I could get 15,000m in the hour and managed 15,089 so I'm happy enough with that. Pleased that I paced it sensibly and resisted the temptation to up the pace after first 15 minutes while I was still feeling fairly fresh. Struggled a little bit from about 40 to 55 minutes but saw the light at the end of the tunnel eventually and finished strong. Now having a big bowl of porridge to celebrate.

Thanks Erik - part of this erging journey for me is about understanding my body and responding to how I feel and not getting carried away with myself. Possibly also a good lesson for life!

Well done Jimmy. The 40-55 mins stage is always when it gets tough. Now you have done it you can build on that distance knowing it's not that bad.

Another go at the 1KM and it felt easier this time (knew I'd PB and I did by 1.4s compared to earlier in the week - felt fresher). More there but just finding my way with the distance - again got the inflamed throat thing after the half way point. Still pleased though. If I could crack 3:15 I'd be well happy. Even though it's quite a short lived thing I did find last week the following day I was definitely less sharp than ideal on the erg. We'll see....any comments from more experienced 1K speed merchants very welcome...

Nice work Paul, remember Shawns thread? He did loads of 1k s at 95%, that really builds confidence.
Doing 250 reps on 1 min rest is also good training. 12 reps is roughly 1k pace.

Good work Paul! Bet you could do even better going a couple more more beats higher theough the middle - especially since you are aerobic fit. What if you held r35/36 and didn’t haul such heavy watts per stroke?

Good lad. Some gains to be had with more training and sub 3:15 will be yours before too long.

As Glenn said it would be interesting to see what happens if you rate higher throughout. What was the drag?

DF=124. Yes, feels like I've got some low hanging fruit to pick with this distance. Weird doing an effort more violent than the 2K...maybe it'll bring me on at that distance. I'll take this distance any day over the long, slow torture of a distance PB attempt...although as I approach my limits at 1K I reckon I'll be eating my words in a sea of lactic acid.

nice improvement. For me the 1k is the flattest of them all for pacing so to get <3:15 I would try to get to 1:37 quickly and just stay there (tho easier said than done of course). Try to keep the sr steady too and it looks like 34/5 will give you the right balance between pace and power per stroke. I suspect a few weeks of more specific training will get you there.
