The ranger bets.................
Re: The ranger bets.................
Henry--
Have you ever even won a medal, of any sort, in a major indoor rowing regatta--WIRC, BIRC, or EIRC?
If not, how do you even know what you are talking about?
To reach your "commonsensical" conclusions, are you just imagining, or speculating, or fantasizing, or what?
You don't have any personal experience that bears on the issue.
Why not see a high goal and work toward it, as I have been doing.
For instance, why not set the goal of breaking Andy Ripley's 50s lwt WR of 6:07.
It would be interesting to see what training program you would devise in order to try to get this done.
I suspect that the first thing you would have to do is row well (for a heavyweight).
That's 16 SPI.
How would you train yourself to do this?

I can't comment on other threads--at all.
The moderators delete my posts.
But you (and many others here) put me down every day--without any comparable action from the moderators whatsoever, even though your accomplishment in the sport is nothing close to mine.
Why is that?

This is again nonsens. This season has nothing to do with it. I will again open a thread to tell the simple facts
Ranger has made 3 bet's 2 with me and one small one with Roy Brook.
The one with Roy was simple, he has to show up at Wirc and weigh in ass a lightweight to win. This was for 20 dollars. He did not weigh in at all so this one he lost.
The second one was a bet about last season. It was about his 2k that year, it has 2 sides, the one side was about 2000 dollars, if he rowed a 6.16 2k I would have lost and had to pay him 2k.
The other side was him being slower than 6.40, If that was to be case I would have won and he should to pay me 1000 $
This was for season 2008/09, last season.
The outcome was clear, although ranger did very well for his age in my viewhe did not go sub 6.40 so I won.
He admited that fact and begged me to have mercy and give him a change to win his debt back. This is not made up he really begged! it was quite embarrising seing a grown man doing that
So I told him: "you have lost this one so you have to pay me, but I will offer you the change to win you money back and even double it. If you at any time during the rest of his life erg any one of your goals I will pay you 2000 dollars".
So in short, he ows 1020 dollars and refuses to pay up.
And if he does what is saying I will pay him 2k

It sounds like Henry really was lucking out with the terms of that bet! I mean betting on a horse saved from the glue factory to win a Triple Crown...
Henry, you really shouldn't take advantage of drunks or those with mental impairments when making bets. I don't know how they do it in the Netherlands but they frown upon that in the states

How about you?
No reason not to be proud of your accomplishments.
No reason not to be ambitious about your goals.

I did not force it upon him. He took it it up himslef, and it took so long to set it up that he msut have been sober at some point.
He also could and should have rowed that 6.40 last year, his form was good enough. He messed it up with his weight management.
This plus 1000$ may be not nothing for most people, for Ranger it's not that much, he can very easily spare such an amount.
And, I had very little faith in him paying the bet in the first place. Let's face it, the man lies every day, so his word doesn't mean much.

Hey ranger, it would help me out if you'd stick to the one thread - I want to try to cut out *all* misrepresentation on that thread, no matter who writes it, but this thread is a distraction.

The fact that he doesn't get payed doesn't make it less a job.

Going by what I think you meant, actually it does mean exactly that - depending where you look, the 2-3 most common definitions of the word 'job' imply work for pay. Now you might think that Citroen isn't fulfilling his role (I'd disagree, but you're allowed your opinion), but it's worth remembering that he's at least half the reason why the only objectionable thing on here is ranger, rather than a billion links to spam. And he does that for free, not as a job.hjs wrote: The fact that he doesn't get payed doesn't make it a job.

Over here (europa/the netherlands) lot's of people do voluntary work. If you take that on, you have to do the job and it is a job.PaulH wrote:Going by what I think you meant, actually it does mean exactly that - depending where you look, the 2-3 most common definitions of the word 'job' imply work for pay. If you think that only being payed is reason to perform a job well you have a rotten attitude towards taking on a job if you ask me.
