I'm going to try wrist bands. Positively the closest I'll ever get to playing tennis.
Funny enough, I played tennis for a long time and quite competitively through college and post-collegiately as well, and never wore wrist bands. I did have a superstition of wearing only black socks though.

I'm intrigued by this as I've always thought that would be the worst thing for ergers. How does hand cream help?
It keeps the skin supple so that it doesn't crack and flake off and so can develop into calluses. The opposite of surgical spirit which creates a protective layer of hard skin, but this then breaks off leaving you worse off than before.

Make sure that they're the oversized ones (circa 13cm) as I always found the 8cm were too small.

Also, don't wear it directly over your wrists, wear them higher up. As the skin is thin and the veins are close to the surface, you get more efficient cooling at this point of your arms. It's only minimal benefit but it all helps.

One other thing. Drape a hand towel over the monorail (just above the handle hook) so you can then grab it one handed when you reach at the catch, wipe your face and/or drape it over the handle and then put it back on the monorail.

I don't keep it on for too long as I find that it can start to rub against my hands and slightly exacerbate the possibility of blisters
