No shortcuts to rowing good.
- time on seat wins everytime

No junk training
- powerfull strokes at low rates are more effective; train aerobic and power at the same time.

dont force a training:
- if you dont feel like training - dont. listen to your body

dont get angry at yourself if you don't hit a target.
- review, rethink, redo.

makes goals/targets.
- I try to make at least 2-3 small goals a month. Remember SMART!

have fun :)

Agree with most of that BUT I think there is a time/place for just getting on with training even if your head tells you not to bother i.e. people are often lazy. It's amazing how often you will A) feel better after training when you didn't want to and B ) actually do an absolute cracker of a session...most people only know if they're "on it" until they start warming up. Endurance sports reward consistency and effort in the main...

just from my point of view.
sometimes i will train everyday - maybe even twice (or even 3 times if someone wants to OTW)
othertimes i just don't feel like it.
i guess i would rather get a quality training in, than a half assed session... just me though :)

...which is fine as long as "don't feel like it" doesn't become a habit.

i do face "motivation" issues, but i see it as something in my head i need to fight off. its easy to let life/family/work/etc to get in the way, but i want to complete a Marathon. i dont care about a pace ( ill be more then happy if i could keep it at around 1:40/500m ), but more then everything, the learning process is even more satisfying then i first realised -

1. i think about nutrition/hydration
2. i discovered that my butt skin hurts
3. i learned the importance of pacing
4. the importance of technic, distance and power per stroke
5. the mental difficulty depends on me ( my head ) and not on body condition necessarily.
6. heart rate control / ideal heart rate to keep me moving on in a challenging effort.
7. the information and shared experience and ideas from you guys is invaluable.

1:40 av. pace? (100" x 84)/60 = 140' or roughly 2hr. 20'. I don't recall ever seeing a ranked 70' HM let alone two in succession.

Current leader of 2016-17 world rankings for HM is a 29 yr. old German with time just under 71'. Also comes first in FM @ roughly 2hr. 30'.

ooh...

There's typo goblin up to tricks,
Hidden words it sneaks and picks;
It lurks within a sweet sonnet,
and gobbles up an alphabet.

So be well aware, be wary,
of this gobbling goblin fairy;
It sneaks into your poetry,
and helps itself to lunch for free.

It leaves your pretty words bereft,
in a wicked little letter theft.
Hyphens meant for bifurcation,
are gobbled up with punctuation.

It nibbles on the apostrophe,
I sense it creeping up on me...

I like the 10 minute rule. I give every scheduled work out 10 minutes no matter how I feel and give myself permission to bail. Maybe once or twice a year I actually quit one, almost invariably I work into it. And I feel like a million bucks afterward. When I was doing a good deal of personal training at a commercial gym (got up to 6-8 clients per week) I always told them to get to the gym (unless they were truly, actually sick) and if it was a bad night, just go through the motions. But get the habit started.

It's pretty amazing how therapeutic rowing seems to be. Can't say how many times I've gotten on the erg feeling pretty sore, and felt much better afterwards.

Yeah most definitely!!! The C2 erg is such a great investment, it really is.

I also like that you can go as hard, easy, as you want or anywhere in between. So if you're not feeling too energetic you can still get on there and do some paddle stuff. And hey presto, it's still another workout in the bag.

when i was doing cycling or running etc, when i used to not feel up for it i simply wouldn't bother doing it. But with the erg i still like to get on there even when i'm feeling crap.

Daily rowing can become a habit. C2 March Madness Challenge. C2's requirement for completion is 25 days which allows a liberal leavening of rest days but there are always outliers, contrarians, and masochists who don't listen.

April 1st update -

March challenge is behind us ( i did it - 25 days! ), and i have been resting for 3 days now with only 45 minutes easy swimming this morning and yesterday morning.
over the past weeks having done 10Km/12Km/15Km sessions i think its time to see if i could get some significant mile stone.

i have my drinks ready and i think im well rested to give a 30Km try tomorrow. i read that this is the point where things gets rough. i want to see how it feels like and if i can even get there.

the pace i want to keep as i wrote is anywhere between 2:30/500 to 2:40/500. i dont know if ill call it quits if i slip in to a slower pace then that, and if i do i want to see if i can make it up by upping HR with little bit more effort.

as always, thank you for the information and advices. ill keep you updated!

Certain you don't want to do a verifiable, rankable, unforgetable, scrapbook certificatable half marathon? After you finish you could take a moment to stretch and then tack on a few more kilometers if you feel strong.
