That's a great improvement Paul. Some more PBs aren't far off from the sound of things

@hjs - Thanks :) Yes more to come I hope. Doing 80% of my workouts on the skierg now, I need volume :D Hopefully it will bring some good results during this year.
@Dangerscouse - Thanks :) Nice improvement on your 2K, 7 seconds is huge. You should definitely go for sub 6:30 :D
@mdpfirrman - Thanks :) Does not feel that young anymore  but the skierg at least feels less taxing on the body and more easy to recover from than rowing.

I'm going to add in the ski erg to my training I think.

Thanks mate. 6:30 is my 2018 goal, but we'll see. Some proper training, and adding deads and squats to my training will help.

You need 2k paced work mostly, you do now of that. Those will give you "easy" gains, simply because you are untrained there.

Got to agree with hjs, adding squat/deads will not be the factor to go below 6:30.

18,7 seconds improvement on my 2k. Felt like a warmup until the last 500m

Holy s***!!!!! 18.7 secs?!?!?! You have well and truly found your groove. The last 500m is stupidly fast and the rest is just plain old very very fast!

I'm still going to try and incorporate deads as my lower back probably needs some strengthening and I shouldn't be so scared of deadlifting, but thanks for the advice. Intervals will help get me used to the pain cave

That pesky FM messed with my mind, i last did one 2014, i was aiming for 3hrs, 1 hr in, do i need a wee, no keep going, do i need a wee, no keep going, I had briefed my daughter which button to press on the monitor, yes go for a wee, was still on target at the half way point, and then i remembered why the last time i did it I said, i dont need to do that again.......all energy gone at the end and missed the 3 hour mark by 3 mins, but not to bad as still a improvement on 4 year ago.........

Well done. Completing a FM is a great effort and you have beaten your previous best. Not what you aimed for but it's still a really good time

I bow to more experienced folks opinions, but I would have thought these would help. I read one article where an elite woman rower said that a lot of her training was powerlifting. I got an intro from a gym coach to the trap/hexagonal bar for deadlifting last week. It's much less scary for those of us with short levers  . You might like to check it out. In my gym almost nobody uses it, which is a bonus at peak times.

It shows my lack of confidence before this 2k as I mostly have been doing volume and not much high speed stuff.
I was actually debating 1:42 or 1:41 as target pace in my head and ended up with 1:42. Should probably started around 1:38 and worked my way down from there. I might drop the rower completely for a while and go after a wr this year already..
2k wr isn’t that strong.
@dangerscouse - then I understand the reason for adding it.

Given the progress sounds possible, although the "easy" gains are over. 6.20 ? Current record?

Skier does not work the legs/spine, so keep doing a few sessions is maybe a good idea, if not you get very detrained at rowing, but ofcourse up to you how you focus etc. I find the skierg less taxing to recover from, average force used is lower. Smaller muscle do the main work.

That sounds possibly within reach if you knocked off 18.7secs and still had more to give. It also sounds like madness that it's possible to go that fast on a skierg
