The Two Types of Training

1:44 @ 28 spm for 60min predicts a 6:16 2K.

No, head racing this fall might be a fun thing to do, if I think I am ready.mikvan52 wrote: 5th you plan to start 5k head racing in 15 months.

Mike VB is four seconds per 500m from Krum and Crawford.
Krum is now one second per 500m from his 50s hwt WR for 60min.
Krum's 50s hwt WR for 60min is two seconds per 500m from 1:44.

Even if you believe you will win the 3k bet you still owe $1k in the meantime.
So why not be a gentleman and settle your bet with Henry?

Re: The Two Types of Training
I suppose it is pretty extreme to say so, but your 2K is only as good as your FM.
FM pace is about 75% HRR.
Low UT1
That's about 152 bpm for me, 132 bpm for Mike VB.
I need to do a FM @ 1:48 to hit my 2K target.
Anything better than that is gravy.
Rocket Roy's FM pb is 1:56.
i suspect 1:56 is what Mike VB would do for a FM, too, if he rowed FMs.
A FM is done at 2K + 14.
Sure, to pull a good 2K, you need to get your heart rate all the way up and row well at your max HR.
But the more difficult thing in training for rowing is the opposite.
To pull a good 2K, you need to be able to row well for a long time (2-3 hours) keeping your HR steady and low.
My FM pb is 1:54.
Mike VB can row about 6K at 1:48--and that's it.
For Mike, 1:48 is AT, 2K + 6.

Sure, I'll owe the $1K bet if I fail to hit my targets when I am fully trained.
But not until then.
That won't be long now.

Re: The Two Types of Training
This FM rowing at 75% HRR is Caviston's Level 3 regimen.
Very comfortable stuff.
The best way to do this rowing in terms of rate, I think, is at 10 MPS and a light stroke.
If you are a lightweight and row well at low rates (13 SPI), a light stroke is 11 SPI, two SPI lower.
At 10 MPS, that's 1:43 @ 29 spm (10 MPS, 11 SPI).
That's what I seem to be doing for this FM rowing now.
So it is just a matter of days now until I win my bet with Henry, as a matter of course, in the middle of doing a normal session of FM rowing.
1:43 is Mike VB's 2K race pace.
And 11 seconds per 500m faster than my FM pb.
1:43/17:10 is my 5K pb.
A FM is done at 5K + 9.

Re: The Two Types of Training
So that pretty much wraps up my project of working on technique and stroking power in order to get better.
My regimen on the erg for the rest of my life is now set.
For each of my pre-dawn sessions on the erg (before I go out to row OTW), I just need to climb on, warm up until I get the rate up to 29 spm and the pace to 1:43--and row.
Day after day.
Day after day.
At 75% HRR, a light stroke (11 SPI), and a low drag (123 df.), this is _very_ comfortable rowing, both physiologically and skeletal-muscularly.
FM rowing.
I can do it every day with no weariness or damage at all.
It will just be a good warm up for my OTW rowing.
1:43 @ 29 spm is as well as anyone has done this sort of rowing.
1:43 pace/2:25 is the Open heavyweight WR for a FM.
The 60s lwt WR for a FM is right around 2:00 pace/2:48.

Re: The Two Types of Training
Given that the 60s lwt WR for a FM is 2:48/2:00 pace, when push comes to shove, the best 60s lightweights historically have had a natural stroking power of 8 SPI.
2:00 pace at 10 MPS is 25 spm and 8 SPI.
I have trained myself to stroke efficiently with right around 40% more power per stroke.

No they're not. Payment on the first one was in no way conditional on the result of the second one. hjs has shown that this is the case, and you've never shown otherwise.ranger wrote: The bets are linked.
Re: The Two Types of Training
You know, Rich, sometimes reading your bullshit is as soothing as a warm bath.
It's soothing to know that in a world of conflict and change, your bullshit stays the same.
You're nearly there. You're still heaps better than anyone else, ever. You're going to win your bets.
You're going to race OTW.
And it's soothing to know that you won't deliver.
I still query your 6:41 this year.
I doubt very much if I'm the only one who believes that you were down at 75kg.
Actually, I'm over being soothed. I'm ready to be refreshed. And shocked. What about a performance, Rich?
Any chance of that being delivered? By the end of the month? The fall? BIRC?
You utter bullshitter. Well, at least it keeps you amused, and by extension the rest of us.

Rich Cureton. 7:02 at BIRC. But "much better than that now". Yeah, right.
