No training is good training?

You're right: Your training isn't transparent, it's invisible.

While you're at it: Have your wife write your note of excuse for this coming Wednesday too   ... when you fail to finish even one non-stop 24 spm 4k piece at sub 2:18.

Looks like many were within 20 seconds.

Remember, don't let the facts get in the way of a good story!

Time-out!

We've got to admire Rich's never-say die attitude.... always facing 'unprecedented' odds... never returning to his WR status for 5 long years.. always failing... never quitting... blowing his plaintive little horn...taking all those cheap shots from the nay-sayers,,,, alerting the world of his future achievements ... coming soon: to a theater near you...

What a guy!
Long live ranger!

It's a nice course, just one big bend, one bridge, and a lot of open water.

Byron was kind enough to take me on a tour a couple of weeks ago.

I am looking forward to the race in a month or so.

ranger
Sorry, I should have made my question clearer. Yesterday you said you were going to row the course today (3 times, no less). How did it go?
I didn't go today.

My wife wants to go with me, to walk along the river in Lansing while I am rowing, so I am going to go on Wednesday.

She had to work today.

Rowing was gorgeous here, anyway.

Nothing lost.

I will have to fit going up to Lansing with life more generally.

Doing this isn't entirely transparent.

Nope.

Not for this season: 2010-2011.

For this season, I am a 60s lwt.

You can check out what I do this year by noting the 55s lwt and 60s lwt standings on April 30, 2011.

P.S. Looks like Siebach can no longer break 6:30. And he's only 51. Oh well. I had six rows faster than 6:31 after I was 51: 6:30, 6:27.5, 6:28, 6:28.5. 6:29, 6:29.7. I was only a beginner then, though. I rowed like shit at max drag. I now row well at low drag (118 df.).

Apparently, in your age and weight division, many people came within 20 seconds.

However, your response

Hey.

Nice map.

I put in just above the bridge to the left of Foster Bridge.

My speed coach tells me that it is 5.5K per loop from there.

Is it right?

This morning I did three loops.

In a couple of weeks, I'll add a fourth loop.

Roughly another 1k from/to the far side of the bridge in question to Foster Bridge. So either your Speed Coach is off a bit, or you're steering a different line, or both.

Another person might see it this way:

As a 50-55 lwt , Paul Siebach beat ranger's best ever lwt times twice.

ranger seems desperate to get out of the 55-59 group so he'll have less competition...
With bad karma like that, Brian Bailey's 60-64 WR is beginning to look more and more 'ranger-proof'...

Is it right?
Did you notice that your speed coach came with a manual?

Turn to the section on calibration.
Your unit came pre-programmed with a calibration factor of 1.00.
This 1.00 factor is not correct for a Fluid Hull.
How do I know?
I have the same hull as you do and have calibrated my speed coach..

You know about these issues already but (again) you are desperate to appear faster than you actually are on the water.
When you actually race on a measured course the "emperors new clothes" will be seen for what they are.

If you ask nicely I will share my calibration factor with you. It has been checked over and over again all summer so I know that its accurate to within a very small margin of error.
