Nice show of mental fortitude to push on through. So easy to just HD when those feelings creep up on you!!

Still a solid effort too.

Pacing for sub-18 was really good - up to 2k to go I was on about 1:48.2. Dropped to 1:52 for then next 1500 and picked up to 1:46 for the last 500 once I could see a PB was still on.

Only reason I didn't stop was because my 19 year old 'light-HW' daughter was next to me doing her own 5K time trial with the aim of ducking under 20 mins. She finished in 19:54, which is pretty good since this time last year she was only just doing 8:00 for 2K. She made me promise not to quit before we started as it may have induced her to do the same, so I didn't!

AT LONG LAST...17:55.7 for 5K

(I've hand written the summary as photobucket now charges for third party hosting). Been on the erg all week and yesterday did an easy 2K priming session which worked well for today. Not ideal prep this morning as I had to work (delivery driver with ~100 drops) but legs felt fine TBH so don't think this impacted too much. To be honest, like alot of PBs, it didn't feel THAT bad, I've had the underlying condition to do this for a while but today my head told me "do it today". BTW HR max is 193 ish so defintely more there - on that note I could tell I was going well as HR was going really high - the first 1000m I am normally 5-10 beats lower. Just well rested I guess plus customary cup of coffee beforehand. Also, I think "bonefixer" on here going for sub 18min spurred me on. :) I am utterly convinced that even now I have the ability to sneek under 17:50. For now though the sub 18min barrier is down and it had been playing on my mind. Very, very pleased. Logged and verified.

TIME METER /500m s/m HR

Well done Gammmmo - that looks like a "never in doubt" PB to me, given the splits. I'm only slightly envious

I don't reckon Henry will be convinced thats a proper PB with no negative splitting and slowing down

Well done from me though

@Anth - I will focus on 2K soon not least because most competitions are at that distance. I am relatively better as the distance/time goes out so that is another reason why the shorter stuff interests me less I guess. My PB from >10 years ago now appears to be 6:48.1 (I had thought I'd gone faster but not so). I will get that lower.

@Steve - appreciate that...it's taken a while. Too long really...I'd clocked 18:09 (sep2016) barely 6 months after starting erging again, so it's taken me best part of a year to clock 17:55. I had clocked 18:06 in March I think and previous all time pb was 18:02 which was >10 years ago!!

Nice well done. Congrats.

For your build very low on the rating, really think you have room there. People seldom train rating up, myself included.

Also, instead of training only, doing more timetrials help. Twofold, getting used to the distance and making it easier on the mind.

You now go the 2k, I would say, just do one soon, to start with.
