New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Luke,
You might consider doing a longer warm-up. As I recall both Eddie Fletcher and Tom Boher, experienced coaches, recommend a warm-up somewhere between 15 and 20 minutes. Their routines are slightly different, but I'm pretty sure they want to make sure your heart is pumping at full volume per beat and your capillaries have opened up.
If you want to go full-cyborg, you could google Caviston's warm-up. He did something like 40 minutes. HJS will tell you that's too long, but that's because he would collapse if he rowed for 40 minutes straight.

true, yesterday I rowed 48 minutes and that gave me tired legs and I stubbled back inside ...TomR wrote:Luke,

That sounds like a nobel effort Henry. You can rest for the remainder of the month.

I always thought breaking 19 for 5K would be a bigger achievement for me than 7 on the 2. Now that it's done, I'm not so sure! But it's done none the less and it feels good: 18:54.2 / 1:53.4. Last 1K was in the 1:51s

I absolutely should, and normally would do at least 2k plus some hard start drills or some hard 10s etc. But I've been building up to this test a while now and was really nervous about doing too much in the warmup and taking something away from the test. Had so much nervous energy I thought I'd just go for it.TomR wrote:Luke,

Now I know I can do it, next time I'll take my time and warmup properly for sure.

Nice job Glen! For sure the 7:00 2k is harder. If not physically then mentally. I have a 5k PR right around yours and it was definitely hard; but the 2k is the one that gets under your skin. I always thought that for most of us anything under 20min would be a solid effort.
Nice one!

Think it is also around the point on the curve where the difference in power required to increase the split by a few seconds is so great - holding a 1:50-something pace for a while is hard. Holding 1:40-something is SOOO much harder.Edward4492 wrote:Nice job Glen! For sure the 7:00 2k is harder. If not physically then mentally. Just done a 1k, 2k warm up. Weighed in at 72Kg.
1k 3:24.0 @ 36spm.
Fairly happy with the result. Pacing was good, fast start, 4th 200m was the slowest, with a faster last 200m.
As I purposely did this around 9am I wasn't at my best (eaten 1 hour before etc) however as my BRIC race will be early in the morning (amazingly a 49 year old short LWT man is not the main event!) I need to get used to it.

Hi Mark, I am signed up for the LWT 40-49 2k. It's going to be an experience, if you do come there are several of us in our 40's competing, see here viewtopic.php?f=6&t=150361
If I can beat the 7:10 I put in as my estimated finish time I'll be happy. With that 1k, sub 7:00 is a fair bit away.

Depending how the next couple of weeks go work wise, I'll be there in the 40-49 HWT looking to pace my 2K properly and get close to 6:45

Good one Piers! Congratulations. If you did it again I bet you'd be even faster. I wonder if you could rate higher too for that distance and pace.
