Cheers Luke -- lots of mistakes but thankfully hung-in in a very defensive position. Pleased with the time though!aussieluke wrote:Awesome work! Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
So @pieman -- I hadn't intended on even competing in the Scottish Indoors. I only entered on Wednesday and as I did I had some nagging doubts re: fitness. Since my last 2K, 8 weeks ago, I've been flat and a little lazy, doing a lot less weekly meters than I had been. But I was noticing that when I did do intervals, what seemed tough a few weeks ago --sitting at 1:45 for example --seemed easy lately. So I knew power had improved. But fitness...
The adrenaline definitely affected my pacing. I touched 1:33 in the first 500m and went through in either 1:36 or 1:38 -- I'm not certain which. Either way, it wasn't my game plan. The plan was 20 strokes at 1:40, settling to around 1:44. So,I got to 1100 out feeling like i had a defensive siege on my hands to hold any sort of decent split but seemed to manage somehow and only saw 1:45 a few times. On the whole, a mess. Next time I'll be more conservative and aim to 'attack' the second 1000m, not hang on grimly for it. Whether I'd have gone any faster by negative splitting, who knows. But I'm sure I'd have felt better afterwards!

Thanks Mark, I saw in the results two people in your class finished in 6:18 were you aware of them or was your early pace just the adrenaline? How was your warm up? Cracking result especially as you were not even playing to do the event.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
yeah one of them was beside me. He was pulling 1:34/5 from the beginning. Wasn't a factor; it was clear he was at a different level. I've analyzed what happened a few times and really it's just adrenaline and how easy it felt at the time: brand new, silent machines etc. But I did think to myself a few times during that first 500m "You are going to pay for this." But it was too late by then. I was committed. So anyway, fantastic experience, but I'd do everything differently next time. Warmup? Just an easy 1800m at 2:15 or such like -- something like that.Pie Man wrote:Thanks Mark, I saw in the results two people in your class finished in 6:18 were you aware of them or was your early pace just the adrenaline?
