Thanks Lindsay
Good luck with your 1 min target, but not too much luck :D
You have an extra 5 years on me which I believe makes your achievements remarkable.
What have you been doing to focus on the shorter distance;
Fast short intervals with longer rest reps or not as fast intervals with short rests?
I think I am lucky that my power is hanging in there, recently did a 215 kg dead lift, but could not even imagine doing a 137kg clean as I did in my rugby days.
Its my body has to do everything in a controlled ,slow manner
Cheers

I would remind abou a few things:

-3 weeks of one thing is not a very long perspective. It does not mean your coach will not mix things more in the future
-One has control over one’s attitude and ability to do that by will is a huge benefit for happy and succesful life.
-Resillience, commitment and mental toughness (gritt) are being trained too. Beating/enduring the ”boredom” is an achievement on its own.

You don’t want to ve in the last boat? Then work your hardest to not be. And that might not mean heroic interval sessions you might have in mind but within the envelope you are assigned.

Choose to be positive, don’t dwell on less than spectacular performances but choose to get up and go again. If you master this you will reap the benefits in decades to come.

Cheers and good luck.

Thanks Steve - we will just have to start a mutual admiration society. My numbers have never been at your level off course but I did have the 1 min WR for literally a week before you sat on a machine and warmed up. My goals are quite modest now - 350+m will be a bonus as I did 343 end of last year. My LP went from about 1:17 to 1:23 in less than 2 years because of the training focus and natural aging so hoping to get a bit of it back. I am nowhere near your height and background either of course.
I am doing more intervals and much less steady state so more hard stuff. Both longer and shorter rests and longer and short intervals.
My weights were never any the same universe as yours but I am back doing a fair bit more. I do deads up to 120, lying leg presses with slow down and explode up at about 150 and pin weighted upper body stuff. My Mr World buddy Ryan suggests putting the deads weights on weights to raise them off the floor a little to change the angle of the lift a bit.
The power stroke development is based on the Ed McNeely stuff here. I do 20"/1'R 10+ times with a peak at 90% of max each time which was 630 when I tested it 6 weeks ago. https://peakcentre.wordpress.com/2009/0 ... rformance/

Brilliant, thanks for the advice Lindsay,I am sure with the right focus you will be able to get the LP back. You must be strong aerobically, never my strength.
Interesting on the raised dead lifts,I was thinking of getting a trap bar as it gives you a few inches higher and is less strain on the back.
Just off to read the Ed McNeely stuff.
Look forward to hearing that you have cracked 350m.

I realise that's a joke (or at least I hope it is ), but they're not really. Perhaps some stuffy guide on writing "correctly" claims they are (along with forbidding the splitting of infinitives), but their use is widespread and not restricted to the ineloquent. The only change I would have made to Henry's post would be switch the positions of "be" and "not".

I got a trap bar last year, helped me loads. I've always struggled with conventional deadlifts due to lower back issues.

Dont think there are any negatives with it?
Looking at your sprint times you have got some good power!

Trap bar deadlifts are great. Seems like I can lift more with that bar over conventional though

i like yanking henri's chain - but actually the observant would notice its a pun... (no-no is a double negative)
it sort of loses its humour if i have to explain it though :)
double negatives are frowned upon, due to their potential for missunderstanding. Dutch is similar to German, where we use them regulary.

Think a forum like this, and life in general should to serious, to me not being a alfa man, language is just a tool, the message itself is more important.
And even in dutch I can write crazy stuff  without knowing so.

@Tom- although the splitting of infinitives is disgusting. I always correct my team when they do it. Keep them out of your PhD!

my aopolgies - i tend to take things literal.
a joke is a funny story - a pun, a play on words.
i wasn't sure what you were reffering to with
" i realise thats a joke"
a) did he mean the pun
b) my statement regarding that double negatives should be avoided...

funny language english. i think this is the place i use it the most.
