Re: Goal: 20 minute test T24. 1:44 avg split
Did a 6x500m with 1:00 rest last week.
results were:
1:35.1 rating 36
1:35.3 rating 35
1:35.6 rating 35
1:35.2 rating 35
1:35.3 rating 36
1:30.7 rating 40
rating is a bit high due to my fast starting strokes but felt good overall. I think this doesn't really give a reliable target pace for 2k so I think i'll go for a target split of 1:36 and maybe sprint some seconds off in the end to get +/- 6:20

Maybe, but you had a lot left, if you do the first 500 in 1.35, cruise from there around 1.36 and start increesing the rate around the last 600. Sub 6.20 seems doable. Proberly a bit below.MartijnvBebber wrote:Did a 6x500m with 1:00 rest last week.

I'll try this. Tomorrow is the test, I think I will go with this race plan roughly. 20 hard strokes and go to 1:35 and 1:36. Very excited and my body has been tingling for 2 days because of adrenaline. Ok.
First race, remember, you have a delay at start, so the first stroke is very slow. Ignore that, its the same for everybody.
20 hard strokes seems to much. You proberly will go to fast.
Point three, follow your raceplan, if you will good speed up in the last 600, not sooner.
Succes.

Re: Goal: 20 minute test T24. 1:44 avg split
Just got home from my first 2k race.
Mannnnn, it was so hard, my middle piece was just too slow and couldn't make up for it in my sprint, sprint was around 1:32-1:33 for 350 metres. Rowed 2070m in the end with an average split of 1:36.2 because we row as an 8.
Going by my training times I would've guessed I had a 6:20 in me but overall decent for a first 2k race.
The air was so DRY at the NKIR, my god. Couldn't get any oxygen out of it..
peace out guys! keep erging

Its a bit overwhelming eh a race with all the crowds. Not really bad and you now know how it works. You beat me thoughMartijnvBebber wrote:Just got home from my first 2k race.

The air was cold, but its more the nerves that cause the dry throught. Every race people say that. How did your 8 place overall?

Re: Goal: 20 minute test T24. 1:44 avg split
I second that, very nice pulls! Going 6:24-26 is seriously fast ,guys! Martin ,there's an old saying in rowing; "the race is won or lost in the middle 1000m". everybody gets out of the start feeling great. Those feelings start to fade at 1700m, and by 1500m you start to get that "oh no" feeling like you're feeling an HD is coming. The last 500m are taken over by the rush of knowing you're going to make it and adrenaline will get you through the last 200m. It's from 1500m down to 500m that's the gut check. Not that I've had any world beating times, but I try and "settle in" and just focus on perfect strokes. For me that's 30 - 31r at 1:45. I try and carry it to the 1000m mark with out acknowledging the little voices that are screaming at me to stop. I keep telling myself how good I'm gonna feel when I crush that PR in 3 and a half more minutes .I've given up the most time from 1000m down to 500m, my tendency is to get just a hair complacent if I'm "on schedule" and I back off just a bit, maybe to 1:46, thinking I'll get it back at the 500m mark. For me, this seems to be where I lose that second or two that hurts.
It all gets back to trusting your training and doing what you're capable of. I'm still working on it. I've had decent erg events, I've never had a horrible race. The most I've tanked is about three seconds off my PR at the time. And I set a (then) PR at Boston by 2 seconds. For me the excitement of the event seems to help. My hardest pulls are personal PR attempts. I don't do 'em at home anymore, i always do 'em at the gym were I can draw a little energy from people watching. I think they're standing by ready to call the EMT's or get out the paddles.
Regardless, very nice first public race. And Henry.....nice job !

Nice, good job! would be second fastest in my team. We placed 7th with a time of 6:36.x but overall the field is very close to eachother so it's gonna come down to technique.hjs wrote:Its a bit overwhelming eh a race with all the crowds. I was quite nervous and I think that somehow my breathing pattern changed because of that. Maybe that shut me down in the middle part, never had a feeling of being out of breath that much before. Hardest part for me was the 1500m mark. I had 1:36.8 average while in training we did a 1500m piece and I had a 1:35.6 average with more energy in the tank..
thanks for the encouragement hjs!
