Too much sweat just gets annoying. I like to wipe it off any chance I get. Just remember to keep hydrating.

Heat and humidity kills me, even humidity alone will do it.
The splits are 1-2 seconds slower across the board.
The other day I lost the grip on the handle and flew backwards due to sweat.
Luckily nothing happened.

Dearly hoping for the return of the ice age.

30 minute row today in 94% humidity, not too much fun that's for sure. That's the highest I have seen it since putting the temp/humidity clock on the wall.

The HTC-1 is as cheap as chips, I have put 5 of them around the house and one in the rowing room.

Don't use the crap batteries they supply with it (I can almost guarantee they will leak and write the HTC-1 off), bin them and put in two Lithium AAA batteries in it and it will probably go for 10 years without looking at it.

I also flicked an e-mail to Concept 2 as they could easily build this into their monitor and also log it because both temperature and humidity have a big effect on your heartrate.

Here here!

I done a 45min recently in absolute crazy heat and i was well off my usual pace by easy 2-3 seconds. The whole session was a tough grind (eventually sweat was pouring off my palms with each stroke) in the cooler temps i find the very same session enjoyable and comfortable, and i am going faster to boot.

Right now in the UK we are just coming to the end of a heatwave...anyone else not feeling quite so motivated to really push it in such heat? I've kept some intensity but don't seem to have the motivation to push on (with ever harder sessions) at the moment. Can't wait for it to cool down a bit...21C max would be nice!!!

Reading through this thread certainly makes me feel better about my summer efforts knowing that its not just me that suffers from the heat when exercising

Gammmmo wrote:Now, here is the issue I'd be interested in people commenting on...with a high intensity session which is quite protracted the HR will be high to start with so as heat builds up will HR have less "headroom" to move into and therefore would this affect erg training by limiting pace??? If so, I don't think we take cooling as seriously as we should.
I did the marathon back at the start of the rowing season, in an air conditioned, but not cold, gym. The only air movement was a 12" fan I bought for the row, pointed at my front. Not sure if anyone else can see it, but here's a link to my performance graph for the row: https://log.concept2.com/profile/197468/log/29685061 I'm using an Apple Watch to record pulse, so it's not on that graph, but in general:

My pace starts at around 2:12. My heart rate at that point is around 137-140.
By the end my pace has dropped to around 2:20. My pulse at that point has dropped to about 127-130.

It might be that neither of those changes was from heat. I was very sore by the end, and feeling weak and beat up. (I didn't prep for a row of this length, and my only goal was to finish it, with no particular pace in mind). But for what it's worth, there you go. I'll check to see if I have an hour row that gives better info.

Edit to add: I don't have an hour this season that helps here. My ranked hour starts slow and speeds up throughout. My heart rate also starts slow and speeds up throughout, but it doesn't seem productive to try to compare the rates of increase to learn anything.
