An Update for everyone:
I ordered a model C Handle and have been using it for about a week. The blisters are improving! I have even done two one hour pieces without a problem. Prior to the new handle, the longest I had pulled was 40 minutes.

I solved my blister problem but I'm not sure it is a solution that is available to everyone.
In another life I am a knitter and spinner. I have been making my own socks for some while. I acquired some silk yarn (in a lovely variagated blue with bits of rose and silver, matching the erg nicely of course) and made handle 'socks' that cover the ends. They fit snugly like a sock on ones foot. The silk is a dream that both feels terrific and wears well, they are easily washable, and they even look good.

In regards to not getting blisters while erging:
You can get blisters from anything. It's not just improper grip that can cause them. I have exceptionally fragile skin (I bruise very easily) and I get blisters bad from erging and when out on the water. Electrical tape does the trick.

perfer et obdura; dolor hic tibi: Be patient and tough; some day this pain will be useful to you.
i have an early model D, and two years ago when i was rowing 60-70k a week, i got a blister on *every* knuckle.
i checked in here, and the prevailing wisdom seemed to be 'just keep rowing' so i worked through them.
the blisters eventually (it took a while!) turned into big calouses, resulting in big hard 'lumberjack hands'.
i started rowing again after nearly a 2 year layoff, and was really dreading the blisters. i did remember that my
wedding band had dug up the handle covering, and that the last time i was rowing, i'd taken it off before each session.
now the band wouldn't come off my fat finger, so i used a bit of petroleum jelly to ease it off. lo and behold, that
finger glided easily over the handle, and so the next day i applied a light layer over all my fingers, and have been
for the last couple months. i had a couple small blisters that have caloused up quickly, and this time i don't
have 'lumberjack hands' as i did before...
