Even just doing a FM is some achievement be it rowing a FM running a FM or whatever!! I doubt i ever will fancy doing one but each to their own n all that.

But to do one in the manner and style that you did is seriously impressive. BIG congrats... time to crack open the bottle of bubbly.

Congrats :D
Thanks!

It is time consuming for sure.
But I was very satisfied afterwards.
And since I joined the http://www.nonathlon.com/ this year, I had to set a FM time.

One more challenge left: and that is the 30 minute trial.
First a few weeks of shorter interval work.
To be really high in the nonathlon you are to young

30 min is something different, but the fact you did not overly suffer during the Fm is a good sigh, should go well.
I know. In my age there were better scores in the past then if one is seriously older :P

Need to get a free standing coat hanger and hang a pressurized hydration pack off it!

Thank you.
Doing a virtual FM as I did today, not really competing with others at that time, makes it easier, to do. One can more easily decide to stop, if it gets to heavy. One can concentrate on the all digital input. Listen to music while rowing that stimulates. And the knowing to hold on, achieving the FM, and therefore not having to start from scratch again in a couple of days, did help me also. B)

Just improved my 1 hour personal best to 13,770 from 13,705. 66 years old, been rowing for just over 2 years. How did I miss this great exercise for so long! Still trying to get my stroke rate down; now averaging 26 spm. Any tips that would help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Galeere wrote:Good ones. On the sprints, special technique is required. Strokes getting shorter, less legs / more arms and back. SPM above 50 on the 100m, DF also way above normal (I usually go @ around 180 for the 100m, around 150 for the 1min). Also you have to be careful not to strain/hurt anything during those efforts, so good warm up and posture are needed too.

Thanks for the helpful tips. I have tried to implement the advice.

"Warmup"

1000m 2:12 @23spm
5000m 1:53 @26spm

2. attempt

1min - 349m (+6) DF174
100m - 16.6s (-0.6) DF196
Well done. The 1 min might have gotten impaired by the 5k @ 1:53.0 (at least that would have happened to me). Good warm-up yes but that 5k is a hard piece at that pace.

First attempt marathon went quite good.
Stroke-rate first 28 km 22/23/24. Last 14 slowly increasing until 28.
Had expected some very heavy last km's, but nothing of the kind. So had some extra energy at the end to even do some sprinting.
I made a isotone drink with some extra added salt, and halted every 2km to drink. This was not optimal. Could gain some extra seconds in drinking more fluidly.;-)
Congratulations that is a very fast FM!

Hm / fm difference is very ambitious. Should proberly be more like 5 seconds difference.

Haven't been on here for a while, took a bit of a sabbatical during the late winter / spring, and have been trying to get back into full rowing form. This time, instead of focusing primarily on long distance rows, I started to intermingle in some shorter length intervals (250m, 500m) to try and get my speed up.

End result was that I decided to finally attack the 2k Yesterday to see if I could break the 7min barrier and was finally successful! Big mental hurdle to jump over as my asthma kicked in for the entire second half of the row, but I was able to push through with a pretty consistent pace.

Now the next goal will be a >8k 30min! Time to get to work.

Managed a 349m-SB on the one-minute today. w/u was 2K, DF 142, avg. 42 SPM. 5 meters missing to PB, probably to be found during the last 10-15sec or so.

^ nice! think you're edging ahead of me now. ;)
I'm gonna try a hard effort at the hour this week but I don't think I'll beat that...or v possibly get close! :D

EDIT interesting pacing there runalone...it's almost as if you were intermittently listening to the "good guy" and the "bad guy" on each shoulder.
