Sorry to get back on this line to say this, but it seems significant to me.

Bit of a physiological crisis today.

If you are 60 years old, 10% body fat, and do a load of interval work, 1:32 @ 36 spm (12.5 SPI), your body does some weird things.

I have muscles popping out all over the place.

I've never experienced anything like this.

I am restructuring my body.

Five weeks to go before I pull 6:16 @ 60 years old.

More intervals tomorrow.

And the next day.

And the next day.

Ranger - you got me - you really did.

Here I thought you were actually training, going to compete, pulling some impressive workouts, and confident enough to talk smack with a current national champion, claim to be a better athlete than the best LW rower this decade, and now come to find out it was all a big spoof!

That's really funny!

You never intended to do any of it, and kept us all coming back till the night before a race that you've just backed out of! Boy, did you pull off a good one!

:D :D :D :D

But I have to ask you - why? I mean, methinks you crossed the line a time or two when you insulted Mike VB, called him out, told him he was slow and old and couldn't compete with you. Don't you think that maybe, perhaps, that was just a bit much? Because you never had any intention of racing Mike, or anyone else?

Or are you just a coward?

Well, ranger, which is it? A funny guy, or a coward?

Didn't you just turn 59 a couple days ago? So are you 60 today? Or are you 60 in 5 weeks? Or are you 60 in about 51 weeks?

In 5 weeks you're going to row the single best age group 2k in the history of the sport, but today you weren't able to post a screen shot of the two simple (easy in your words) rows you promised to post.

Typically you ignore any post that calls on you to answer your broken promises. I know you'll read this, could you please respond and acknowledge why you failed once again to post the proof you promised to do?

Most exciting day of my lifetime in athletics in any sport.

My distance rowing has come together.

I am now just rowing along, way under my anaerobic threshold, effortlessly, 1:40 @ 30 (10MPS, 11.7 SPI).

I am going to row over 18K for an hour.

I now row like Eskild.

In fact, I might be faster.

I might row under 6:00 for 2K.

I am trying to remain calm, but sheeesh, this is tooooooo much.

My distance rowing is 8 (!!!!) seconds per 500m better than it was in 2002-2003.

Technique makes a difference?

Does it ever.

I am now rowing with my legs, as I should (but without diminishing the pull with my back and arms).

I used to just row with my back and arms.

Does this mean that I am going to row 5K @ 1:35?

What _is_ that?

15:50?

Damn.

That's faster than Nik Fleming.

Well done congratulations. I told you 6.16 was for wimps. You are a legend. What is the new target? I suggest somewhere around 5.50 would be within your capabilities.

There's my HTCR stroke: 1:40 @ 30 spm on the erg; 2:00 @ 30 spm OTW.

If you are maximallly efficient on the erg, you can do your threshold distance rowing (e.g., 60min) at 10 MPS and your 2K stroking power, as Mike VB and Rocket Roy do.

The only problem is that their 2K stroking power is 9.5 SPI.

9.5 SPI @ 10 MPS is 1:51.

I am now pulling 11.7 SPI, perhaps more (12.5 SPI?).

11.7 SPI @ 10 MPS is 1:40.

12.4 SPI @ 10 MPS is 1:37.

The joke is over folks.
Why don't we make a pact and ignore this buffoon from February 1st, until he actually posts a screenshot of something worthwhile or even competes again. Cant see him doing anything until he is 60, and then it will be when I am 65 etc. We have heard it all before ad infinitum.
It worked on his UK blog, he was ignored and his blog wasn't answered for months, that's why he migrated to this forum.
Thats all folks, as the cartoons say at the finale.

SteveG - I vote 'yea'.

Ranger - enjoy the shunning. You've certainly earned it. You are a pathetic fraud, a coward of the first order, a pus-oozing wart attempting to disfigure this great sport.

I really really hope you show up at a regatta this summer, where you will get your lying, delusional butt kicked by your betters. All of them.

And that's a very big group.

Unfortunately you won't, because you are a complete and utter fraud.

Back to your couch, and your doughnuts, sweat on (HA!) in your basement, doing intervals only in your mind and on your keyboard.

At least you've set a world record in one area; you are the most pathetic loser infesting the rowing community.

If things go well this week, I think I'll do 4 x 2K 1:38 @ 32 spm and 5K 1:39/16:30 @ 31 spm, both of which are among my targets.

The 5K would be under WR 2K pace, 1:39.5.

All the 2Ks would be WR rows.

Both would predict a 6:16 2K.

If I get these done this week, I might be able to win the Open lwt race at WIRC.

This was last year's race.

The 5K would break the 60s lwt WR by a minute, the 50s lwt WR by 17 seconds, and the 40s lwt WR by 10 seconds.

The 5K would beat Mike VB by 8 seconds per 500m.

Ah yes, Taylor Washburn

#1: I got some coaching from Taylor Washburn at The Craftsbury Sculling Center a couple of years ago when he was still in College. This was the same year he set the all-time record for their coaches-interns only Head Race that has been run weekly in the summers for ?2? decades.

#2. Since that Craftsbury stint he's been on several Nat'l teams.

#3. I wonder what performance similarities he bears to any lightweight male nearly three times his age? VO2max? Max Wattage output? Stroke Volume of Heart? Max Heart Rate? Flexibility?

#4. "Unaffiliated" in Taylor's case means either: 1: "I'm not telling" or ... 2: "Why bother with naming an affiliation this is training for my ambitions on the water"
