Great work Henry, I think you've got sub 1:20 for 60 in that tank, absolutely!

Ah ok, I thought with the last 20 seconds being a bit slower you'd hit that super painful point where your body just locks up and can't keep the pace any longer

That happened but not to soon. Could afterwards do a decent 20 min to do a bit more.

Did my test 2K before my first race in two weeks. 7:26.1 (PB by nearly four seconds). Been doing PP since November. Was a bit disappointed that it wasn't closer to 7:22, but I'm a relatively short heavyweight (truth be told I've weighed probably more of a lightweight most of my life but I'm more muscular now at 190).

When I look back in perspective, I started rowing last Winter. I was in decent but not great cardio shape then. My PB then was 7:50 and by a few months I had it down near 7:45. When I look at a 20 second drop I guess I shouldn't be that disappointed and I've just started doing nearly 50K meters a week in the past three months.

Nice work Henry / Chris! Very fast times!

hjs wrote:1 min pb, seldom done this, so proberly it was/is not super sharp. Not done much seed work either, mostly aerobic stuff and 5k paced sessions.

Had a 20 min TT race sunday 143.4 ok, but not great.

Today

60 seconds 378m 119.3 drag 140. Feet one hole showing, lowered that this week. Feels better.

20 118.7/45
40 118.7/45
60 130.3/48

With a some speed sub 1.20 for the full 60 ?
Great PB Henry. It´s astonishing how much power is lost after the first 35-45 secs. I noticed the same effects on my runs for the 60sec.

Cheers Hardy.

Even on the 60 sec, aerobic fitness begins to play. If you off close to max you won,t even get at the finish. Most 500 meters on youtube are done that way. Bizarre in my eyes.

Nice piece Henry! As you continue to re-iterate, once you get past 10-15s it's no longer a flat out sprint. Even a 60s efffort requires some degree of pacing for the best possible time.

@Shawn. Congratulations on the WR for the new 1 minute category! I had posted it on the comp. subforum, but there was no response, so I figured that it was less likely to go unnoticed here. Checking out the season rankings, there were only 2 verified longer distances and both them were by guys in their 20s.

Indeed missed that one. 395meters right at the top. Congrats Shawn Baker!

feel a bit guilty posting here as im still "fairly" new and still trying to find my form.
as such i could probably post here every week with one or the other distance.
mostly im doing a lot of longer distances (HM'S) at low rate (10-11W / stroke) to try and improve stroke power:

todays last sessions of the VTC was another HM at free rate.

actually wasn't trying for anything specific, just a 1:55 split. had to slow down a few times to keep this pace during the first 12k and at one time i saw the 1:20 projected time. decided to push it a little but had a blow out on the last 4k. i feel a sub 80 would have been doable with a different approach at the beginning. Still a bit dissapointed with not being able to keep target pace - but happy with the pb (about a minute).
quite happy with the training (thanks all for advice) and it seems to be working and leading me in the direction I want to go:
next target is a FM sub 2:00/500m pace...
