1st attempt at 2000k, last 500 was the fastest, could have the fitness for slightly better time but its probably pretty realistic point.
2,000m 7:24.1 pace 1:51.0

The good thing is that its 10 sec faster pace than my 5k attempt 10k attempt. The bad thing is that the easiest gains might be wearing thin. Still optimistic that 7 min could be achievable with reasonable time frame.

congrats on the 2k kerosene, and the hours hardy and bisqeet, i can hardly imagine rowing that long never mind at that pace.

i got a new 5k PB.
have only really done 5k as my endurance workouts before at a slow steady pace, todays workout called for starting at my endurance row pace then to start increasing it by a second overtime i felt it possible.
so started off at 1:57 then by the end i was pulling close to my best 2k pace :o would only have been a couple of seconds off my 2k pb time actually looking at it now

anyway. finished at 18:53.9 averaged 1:53.3
not bad for a workout rather than a test. I've got 6x 500m for my session tomorrow so hopefully i haven't overcooked it today

Good one kerosene. Nice PB zac.
Both with good pacing!
zac, 6 months ago I couldn´t imagine to do an 1 hour sub 1:55 either and I was barely able to pull that on a 5k. There is plenty room for improvement - wait and see :P

I'm kind of new at this. I bought an erg almost two years ago because it is what would fit in my basement with lower ceilings. I have off and on rowed some on it. In November, I started going to classes at a local studio gym that incorporates erging and high intensity exercises (not cross fit). We don't row much more than 500m at a time. I decided to try a timed 2K since it had been about a year since my last attempt (9:16). So I surprised myself when I pulled a 7:57.0 ! (Female 41 HW) Man, that was painful!

Terrific Stuff! Now of course you will have to go after all the other distances too!

What G-Dub said! You might find yourself a little more interested in rowing a variety of pieces now. That's what happened to me! Great improvement on the 2000!

Well, I got SO close. I did not come into this with the respect for the erg that I should have. I was humbled.
Everything was going terribly painfully, as planned. Was sitting on a projected finish of 7:00 for quite some time but the 3rd 500 really punished me. Managed to put together some semblance of a sprint the last 200m. Proj. finish at 80m to go was 7:01 I pushed fast and furious to get that down but couldn't do it.

I know I definitely need to work on my starts. This one just felt hard from the get go. BUT I'll take a 15 second improvement over 20 days, and to be frank I'm impressed that I stuck the whole 2k, I was definitely ready to chalk it up to an "off night" at the 1300 mark.

Good stuff Chris! I'm sure the coaches will give you lots of good critique on your pacing. You'd of had it with a reasonable first 500 - meaning if you went out at the pace of the 4th split, you'd have had more left thought the middle and end. But there is no doubt you will blow past this anyway, so chalk it up to experience, eh!

2 nice 2ks

Chris, next time you get it, aerobic fitness is what you need, and watch the rating, there you can improve a good bit, try to keep the rate going. Pacingwise for guys like you, is difficult, improvement goes very rapidly.
Forget sub 7, look at 6.50 now :D

Thanks guys for the tips. Henry I will definitely try to pace myself better and work on a consistent rate. I flew out of the gates and I don't think I even looked at my rate once the whole race - I was just trying so hard to keep that average split to under 1:45.
Felt like dying afterward haha.

1:45.4 was immensely difficult, I would definitely say an all-out effort, so I know I won't see any 15-second improvements again, ever
Just going to keep working on aerobic stuff and build that base up more with strong strokes and try again soon. Me and the Mrs. are going away to Maui for the first 2 weeks of March so I foresee not alot of erging for that time. Looks like there is a Crossfit box in Maui which obviously has ergs but I doubt I will want to spend much time in a gym on my vacation.

When you get back from holidays, start putting in the steady state work. If you are patient, you will see 15 seconds and more of improvement on your 2k and even more on your longer pieces. Trust your training. - Chris

1 min pb, seldom done this, so proberly it was/is not super sharp. Not done much seed work either, mostly aerobic stuff and 5k paced sessions.

Had a 20 min TT race sunday 143.4 ok, but not great.

Today

60 seconds 378m 119.3 drag 140. Feet one hole showing, lowered that this week. Feels better.

20 118.7/45
40 118.7/45
60 130.3/48

With a some speed sub 1.20 for the full 60 ?
