Sure.

But I am working on it.

I was doing some nice 2:07 @ 24 spm in my 1x this morning.

Delighted with that.

Back in 2003, when I tried to row in my 1x, just yanking the oars, I fell out.

What is wrong with a nice swim in the summer ? You will never race otw so there is no need for staying in your boat, just relay and make a cool flip every now and then.

I can sharpen with the best of them, Mike, as my dozen 2Ks in and around 6:30 demonstrate.

Lately, though, there just hasn't been any reason to do it, given this history, until I was ready to do it at low drag, rowing well.

I have done it repeatedly at high drag, rowing like shit.

I don't have any interest in repeating the exercise.

So, if you don't race, you shouldn't row?

Hardly.

Rowing is great, Henry, no matter what.

You certainly don't need to race to enjoy a 1x, although I suspect that it is certainly fun to race, too.

(snip)

I put in 13.5K this morning, continuing to work on it.

I will try to push that to 20K a day OTW, before I am back in Ann Arbor in a couple of weeks.

ranger
Europe lake only has 2k of distance before you turn around.
Do you ever scull w/o a break for 4 to 10k?

Here's part of what I did this morning on an "off" day. What a coincidence that we were both sculling at 24 spm...

0500m @ 2:13 & 21 spm
1000m @ 2:09 & 21.5 (2:11.7 avg)
1500 @ 2:09 & 24.0 (2:10.8)
2000 @ 2:07 & 25.5 (2:09.0) 2k in 8:39.8
2500 @ 2:06 & 26.0 (2:09.2)
3000 @ 2:07 & 26.0 (2:08.9)
3500 @ 2:08 & 25.5 (2:08.8)
4000 @ 2:05 & 27.0 (2:08.3) - 420 STROKES - 17:06.9 (24.5 spm avg)

Note: One day we may see the disappearance of ranger's word "some" and actually get a duration :D

And as for the "try to push" the distance to 20k oTW..... What's stopping you from doing it tomorrow?
Why not "drill on" distance??

You'll need it for the HOCR in 2011 and it's not too early to start this summer. Find a long body of water and scull 10k in one direction... It won't take too much "trying" to get back: You'll have to!!  :|

All this "richard-ing" around with short bodies of water is truly hiding from the pressing need you have to "go long"...
Don't you agree?

Water, water, everywhere and Novice Richard sticks to a 3k swamp on the Huron and a 2k frog pond where even Moses, in swaddling clothes, wouldn't get lost in the "bull"rushes....

Did I say that? Not all, I said, for someone who will never race (you) pace or technique is not important. You can do whatever you want, just enjoy it.

No, I am not doing such things yet. But sure, I will try to do these things as soon as I can. No need to do this when I am still working on technical problems, though. I don't have any trouble with fitness. I use the erg to maintain and push my fitness to a limit.

Sure. Then I will do a round of local head races this fall.

You're such a Ffffing, douche bag liar. You are ALWAYS preparing to race, that's all you ever talk about. How in the hell can you row 20K + meters a day (according to you) plus an additional 2 hours a day (according to you) of other aerobic training and NOT be preparing to race.

You are truly the most delusional person on the planet. Well, maybe Obama has you beat there but you're a close 2nd.

And your like are legion.

Race preparation is anaerobic rowing--AT, TR, AN.

No, I haven't been preparing to race.

At best, I have been running HRs of 165 bpm.

For me, AT is above 170 bpm.

TR is 180 bpm.

AN is pushing 190 bpm.

I'll start sharpening for BIRC 2010 September 1st.

I get about a dozen seconds over 2K from three months of hard sharpening.

I don't know about you folks, but for me, in a good 2K, my HR is above my anaerobic threshold for most of the race and at max near the end (or earlier).
