Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Finally gave the HM a try:
1:19:53.1
1:52.5
r25
Very pleased to break 1:20:00, as the deamons were sitting on both shoulders with about 6k to go. wish i had done some HM-specific training to prepare, such as 10 x 2k: 5 x 4k.
Still, glad that's off my to-do list for the season.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
I think Damien mis-typed it Jim, he had a screen shot on facebook showing a 1:53.5 average, pretty damn solid HM!
Had a decent week with a nice mix, got in 65k and got a little lazy about posting. Hit all my scheduled workouts relatively easily. Decided to do a(4) x 1000m today, did 'em on four minutes rest. Had rowing class this morning with four women, so did about 4k of easy rowing. Decided to ease into this one:
1000m @ 1:59.9 26r 203w
1:55.0 27r 230w
1:50.0 29r 263w
1:46.7 34r 288w
Planned on going five seconds faster each split.Last one was a complete mess. Went out at a 1:45, at about the 700m mark had to back off. Got back on it at 500m, then fell way off again. Then sprinted the final 150m to get the average back down. Over all a pretty weak showing. Got home and checked the Pete Plan, it shows a 5 minute rest for this work out. I think it's time to shake up the plan a bit, been doing Rojabo for about eight weeks now. Looking over the Pete Plan he has you doing three long pulls each week ( 8-15k). Then some faster stuff. I'm thinking it's time to switch over to some (4) x 1000's and (8) x 500's. I'll keep the volume and the long rows and switch up into some of the Pete Plan type of thing. Pretty obvious I wasn't carrying much power into the higher rates, the 1:50 was pretty close to my rojabo numbers (30r 270w vs actual 29r 263w, at 9 w/s). I'll re-evaluate and shake it up a little.

Thanks Edward and I need to actually get on the full PP also. Been cherry picking the longer stuff, tossing in some challenges, and PBs. Time to hunker back down to hard intervals.

I managed to improve 10k from 40:05 to 39:33. So 32 seconds. I'm happy to be under 40 finally! Went pretty smooth actually. Walked it from 1:59 down to 1:57. May have had a little more to give it, but I'm a wimp and just wanted to make sure I finished! It will do for now and I'm happy the distance work paid dividends. Time to get real about 5K now

I had to wait until all the ballers were finished posting their latest rounds of magnificent times. Plus I had too full of an evening on Friday night.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Well, I 'think' this advice helped. I do find the resistance at the catch comes on more immediately when I raise my hands up a bit. I think I was doing some of that initially because when I go higher I tend to catch the top of the plastic guide where the chain exits from.jadomatis wrote:See if someone can video your stroke as well. When I first started I didnt feel much initial resistance on the stroke either and had to reach as well. What I discovered was that I was dropping my hands down on the recovery. Once I started making a mental effort to raise my hands 6" (think up, not back) right before the catch I noticed more resistance at the very beginning of the stroke without having to reach forward for it.
Either way, I settled on a resistance of 7 for my 5K TT today. It was 'another' BP at 19:55.7 (20:30 was previous pb). I haven't pulled anything close to that on an erg in over a decade, so I'm quite pleased with the outcome. I should thank Lemmy and some Motorhead 'greatest hits' for inspiration

A few steady sessions and then I'll try the CTC challenge one last time for October.
