Nice one Damien, the 1/1 sets are relative the easy ones, short enough to be doable, fast enough to be fun. 100% on the edge they can be killing though. For a max set you can,t ease in, so you need to know what you can handle.

Good advice Henry, as always. The "easing in" was like the first 400 of a 2k over and over: felt like an erg god seeing the numbers with little effort - and no price to pay since you stop before any ugliness kicks in. So, yes, next time I will take a page from the PP and begin the set at 1:37, the previous avg., and try some negative splitting by tenths.hjs wrote:Nice one Damien, the 1/1 sets are relative the easy ones, short enough to be doable, fast enough to be fun. 100% on the edge they can be killing though. Yes that was really strong Damien and I think 2k-4 is probably a good target for the sprinty types. 100% is hard and you cant afford to relax or take the first few easier so the second go will likely be a bit better but hurt a lot. My first one was 1:38.2 so I am hoping to get about 1"/500 off that if I can.hjs wrote:Nice one Damien, the 1/1 sets are relative the easy ones, short enough to be doable, fast enough to be fun. 100% on the edge they can be killing though. 10k PB
Had a workout just last week where I woke up in the middle and decided to make something of my sorry self and got a 10k PB by 26". I had been doing timed pieces for the last 1-1/2 months to avoid the pace-skewing preoccupation with rankable distances. So naturally as rain and sunshine, I set a rankable distance and then went haring off chasing the split after about half the distance in, resulting in an improved result but not all that was possible. This one was intentional from the gitgo so I'm putting it here.
61" improvement this time. 74% of 2k watts. Wound the pace down into the teens to start and held on. Some mental weakness after 6k. Pleased with the result and encouraged to think I may amount to something when I grow up

Indeed, nice wirk yet, all those meters are not holding you down.G-dub wrote:Well done sir! That's quite an improvement.

Great job, Jack! Nice consistency in the splits. It looks like you really had it nailed - right from the gitgo, as you put it.

Thanks for "dubbing" me, Glenn. I've been called worse AND late for dinner!
Wearing me down but not quite out, Henry. Ongoing experiment on my favorite crash test dummy!
Bob, considering my record of roller coaster pacing, this one was mostly about grunt per stroke every stroke.

Well, yes. That is what it takes. The trick is in learning just have much grunt you can put out for the distance or time that you doing. Like I said, it looks like you really had this one nailed. Now you are in a good position to scale up or down to work on other distances and times.jackarabit wrote: Bob, considering my record of roller coaster pacing, this one was mostly about grunt per stroke every stroke.
Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
HM this morning 1:27:40.9 2:04.6/500 shaving 27 seconds off my last time. Pleased with that, it certainly seemed easier than before perhaps a bit more in the tank, HR 150@5k and 157@20k topping out at 159@ finish. Feel good but a couple of small pesky blisters on hands. I was doing more cycling than rowing through the summer. Got back to some UT1 rows 10-14k in last month. Now need to work on my 30min 60min and 10k times. I'm sure 7500 in 30min is possible!
Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Wow, I need to visit the PB thread more often. Seeing Wombat hit over 8k for 30, Jack nailing a consistant excellent effort 10k, & Heartwood's HM 1:27, these are very inspirational efforts!
Meant to get on last week, setting a new 5k PB at 20:46. Like Jack, had decided from the start that this was the purpose of the row. Splits were all very even within .5 second of each other. On the way, was just 1 second over my pb at 2k, so knew if I could hold it that is was an honest effort. Was questioning whether I'd make each split to the next but think that's the point of it becoming a PB. Many faster here but as a 'very' lightweight 134 lbs, think this 5k's going to last for me.
