Seems like I was taking it easy on the last couple - not the case. I could not get any oxygen, totally maxed out.
Good going, Mike. Anyone other than a bad ass would have HD'd when struggling for oxygen. A dude endued with fortitude is not easily subdued.

1000m cooldown

Not too bad considering how I felt tonight. Tired after a long day taking the kids to the animal park. Could have happily just done another easy SS session.

PP Beginners Week 8 Day 1

8500m row. My target was between my Week 1 (2:16.6) and my last 8000m row (2:13.0)

Actual:

37:50.3 / 8500 / 2:13.5 / 22spm

I seem to have leveled off at 2:12/2:13 and all my distance pieces have been around that time for a month now, although I am managing to sustain that on the increasing distance.

Thanks again for the welcome, Mike. You have commendable traits of politeness and diplomacy. Those traits, combined with your comment, "Enough divisiveness going on with the US elections. Don't need it here..." led me to guess that you are British, since I associate politeness, diplomacy and articulacy with the Brits in general. But then, out of curiosity I searched for your name along with the term "rowing" and found on the C2 website that you're in the US. I was surprised.

But then ... I recalled that you used the term "bad ass" once and I don't think that's among ordinary British lingo :)

This morning, I finally caught up in this forum thread, by reading every remaining un-read-by-me post and have arrived at the latest one. It is now 10:00 a.m. here and past time for me to get started on today's PP session.

Cheers/best wishes to everyone in this area of the forum.

No, 'bad ass' is definitely not part of the British vernacular.

Adam: 2:07 for 8k is something I could only dream of right now.

Mininick: welcome back, hope the auditions went well!

All other BPP's some great times being posted here and a lot of effort going in. Very hard to keep up with who is doing what!

Sanz - all the 1K sessions are brutal. You're showing right now around a 8:10 or so for a 2K time. Very nice improvements overall. You are getting consistently faster.

Ben - nice intervals. To start out too fast and then keep it up very tough.

Adam - very nice 8K. You'll be joining Barry soon killing it on the regular PP. Your 8K paces are very good.

Luke - blazing 750/ 1000 / 750. You're very close to the sub 7 you covet if not at it now. Maybe a test for the TT day (forgot you did one two weeks ago - might be too soon to go again).

John - thanks again. It's a pleasure to have another positive person on the thread. I saw you have a blog. If it's not too much trouble, I'd love to see your times / sessions if you want to cut and paste them here. You are in very elevated company with your paces for the 70+ age group. I have a ton of respect for that. Lindsay's workout partner is a 70+ very, very strong rower too (and I think WR holder for certain distances). I'm sure Lindsay's friend would take an interest in your training too (as the rest of us).

Gordon - it's not really leveling off. Your progress is just slowing. That's normal. You'll continue to improve, just slower.

Did the PP waterfall today. Didn't really know what to expect. It's the one lifting day where I don't lift immediately before the row (so this day tends to go better for me overall). I lift at night like I should do the other two lifting days (but I'm too lazy to those days). My last session was low 1:56.6 so I was thinking around 1:59 /1:58 for a target (but I wanted to make sure after just getting back I could complete it). Guess I felt good... My 5K time needs updated with that said. I'm probably showing a 19:15 or so right now but I haven't put it to the test in a while (all my recent PBs were set on the 5K right after a heavy lift - I'm thinking I might be able to get closer to 19:10 if I didn't lift right before getting on the rower).

11:47.7 / 3000 / 1:57.9 / 25
9:48.5 / 2500 / 1:57.7 / 26
7:47.6 / 2000 / 1:56.9 / 27

Avg 7500 / 1:57.5 / 26 Off almost a full second from last time but not bad -- I'll take it. I was peaking last time I did it. My paces are getting back quickly now.

Bloodbuzz Corio wrote: John that is a fantastic set of 4x1000 - and as Glenn said must have you feeling much better than you did after the mile! 0.8 is a big improvement at that pace. How was your pacing on these - get a negative split in within the intervals?
Not sure about better, if anything it is reinforcing the idea that 2k is going to be tough at sub 1:45. Yes the intervals except the first were negatively split in with the last one emptying the training tank. The fits one I struggled to take it easy until the first half was done, still not lesson learned there, I did get my act together a bit for the remaining reps though.
Bloodbuzz Corio wrote:I'm certainly not getting in a proper PP week this week - jet lag and beer(!) not helping but I have done 2x5,000/2:00r twice in the last few days and both came out at exactly the same time to the tenth of a second (43:50.1) which I thought was worth a mention!
Not a great combination, but good that your taking the SS medicine.

I know what you mean, I once worked in a team of around 40 and there were 8 Johns. Hopefully things won't get too confusing as I'm sure we're both used to working out if we are the right or wrong John in any given situation.

You are hereby dubbed John A and John N. John N - 19:24 was it on the 5K (I took some time and read some of your blog). Seriously? At 70. Wow! You have some endurance my friend. Second in the world this year folks (you don't seem to be the type of guy that would brag so I'll do it for you).

We have some pretty great rowers in this little group. Lindsay is world class too in his age group. Joe (even though he's been busy at work) was top five in the world or so (over 40 heavyweights). I'm probably forgetting some others (I'm sure Dean is ranked way up there on his distance pieces as well).

Wow the BPPers are really showing some great sessions, and Barry has started the PP with a stella performance.

Mike great to see you are 'bouncing' back, which hard distance are you going to do this week?

John, I have enjoyed reading your blog, it's going to be very interesting how your times change over the coming weeks.

Lindsayh sorry to hear you have tweaked your back, hopefully it will recover quickly.

Luke and JohnAd great indicators for a sub 7:00 2k.

my life seems to have gone wrong somewhere I never realised you have to train for pool parties, which is probably why I haven't been to one in 20 years :).

Did my 4x1k yesterday, went pretty well.

Last time I averaged 1:51.8 @ 33, so was going to aim for 3:43 (1:51.7) forgot to double check my target time before I started which meant I aimed for 3:41 instead of 3:43.

This was probably as well as my 1:51.8 was 5 seconds slower than my last pyramid.

3:41.0 1:50.5 32 153HR
3:40.7 1:50.3 33 157HR
3:39.5 1:49.7 33 160HR
3:34.8 1:47.4 35 163HR

Av 1:49.5 @33, this was a tough session, but rewarding, last rep managed to pull 1:49's to 500 then pick up the pace, finishing the last 200 around 1:42's I did make the woman on the erg next to me jump when I exhaled explosively at the end, but I had enough breath to apologise and explain I was probably trying a bit too hard.

10k SS today, strapless @ 2:11.3 Av HR 117 (low UT2 for me)
Piers 53m was 73Kg 175cm to 2019 now 78kg
500m 1:34 (HW 2020) 2k 7:09.5 (2017 LWT) 10k 39:58.9 (2016 LWT) HM 1:28:26.9 (2017 LWT)

Luke, wow great pyramid! That middle section is very impressive and it looks like you still had a bit in the tank at the end.

Mike, glad your back to only a second off, that doesn't sound too bad.

Gordon, keep going, won't be long before you think 10k isn't that far

Ben, bold sprints there, I like that approach, useful for finding ones limits but perhaps not very sustainable.

Sanz, doing sprints without a recently fed body must be very though, well gritted out.

Adam, good to see your progress on the stroke rate and good to have you back posting. Have you tried negative pacing or even pacing the sessions, did you find it easier or harder?

Piers, looks a bit better than pretty good to me, also glad that you retained enough composure to say sorry for exercising hard (in a gym of all places whatever next), no doubts as to where you're from :)

I think I'm out. It was fun for awhile. I felt like I was within reach. I'm not even close. Ciao.

Gordon, thanks for the confirmation. I just looked it up and the dictionary says it is an Americanism that originated in America in the 1950s and is usually spelled as one word. I've heard it before and I think the first time I heard it was when I was in the military but it hasn't really been part of my personal vernacular, either. But if I use it again in the future, it will be written as one word, not two, so that it agrees with the dictionary. :)

First I have to figure out how to cut and paste images into the forum. But in the meantime the results of the session I did today are at this link: http://etherealrowing.com/pete-plan-cyc ... 4x2k-r500/

It was my first 4x2K in the first cycle of regular PP - so it is merely another baseline session.
