A bunch of new PBs

Post by Gilesyb » April 26th, 2006, 4:22 pm

:o

Well, they all come in a rush, don't they?

About 2 weeks back, finally broke 6:40 for the 2k, a long time goal. This gave me the courage to go for a h/m, and while I was a bit disappointed, 1:20:25.4 is a new PB (was after that 1:20:00 level, of course).

Those half marathons are different from everything else, I find: the last 20 mins at 1:57 was what did for it, but my knackered arms could not manage it in any way.

Then this week: my biggest bugbear, the 6k, finally vanquished, in 21:22.8 which was 14 seconds better. This meant I felt relaxed about the 1k yesterday, though 2 PB's like that meant today's, the hour, in 16014, was a few metres down on what it could have been.

Pity, because getting into the top 10% for every distance by end year was the goal. Still, what fun!

Thanks for listening . . .
33, 86kg. Low pull 1:15. 1000m 3:10.5 (getting better) 2k 6.39.7, 5k 17:49.7, 6k 21:22.8 30 min 8227, 60 min 16014m, H/m 1:20:24.5

Nice FMs ancho and Polaco and all sorts of new PBs there Gilesyb.
I have some Tanita scales and I am generally around 17%. I don't think they have an athlete mode, but if it did it would obviously be right for me

This winter was the first for quite a few years I haven't boarded, my wife had a baby in July. I figure that as soon as he can walk we can put him on skis  and we can get back up in the mountains. Hopefully back on the board next season.

I used to ski also, but switched over to the dark side 6 years ago  On those big powder days it's just too much fun on a single plank.

Skiing in Texas is done on a lake, I found that out the first time I walked in to a ski shop here :D

Coincidentally my avatar photo was taken at Breckenridge on a bitterly cold and windy day in December 2003.

You have a lot of strength.

I think as you keep developing, you will soon be under 6:40.

Where do you get the huge screen for RP?

Marathon plus a million

Post by gcanyon » April 29th, 2006, 4:55 pm

My previous best at the marathon (my first and only marathon) was 03:41:48.9 back in January.

Today, I did 3:13:04.7, just a little improvment ;-)

As a bonus, I passed the million meter mark toward the end of the marathon.

It's an Epson Powerlite S3 projector, and I got it direct from Epson
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/cons ... d=53540923

I signed up for their email list and they sent me a discount voucher, which I used. They also were running a mail in rebate for a free 83 inch projector screen which was worth another $200.

I went for an LCD projector, instead of a DLP because some peolple can notice a rainbow effect with DLP when you move your head, and when I'm rowing my head moves a lot, especially when I'm tired :-)
I thought it wasn't worth the risk.

Regarding the projection screen, it does make things a little brighter and a touch sharper, but the picture was still very good even when I just projected directly onto the wall. I'm not sure the screen is essential.

The price of these projectors is coming down all the time, and is ideal for running Rowpro really big. I can also hook my DVD player up and watch a movie. I'm saving King Kong for when I'm finally fit enough for a marathon attempt

Cheers

great Hennie!

Am i right that this was a 1 sec improvement over previous PB?

That must have been pretty tough, being somewhat fly-and-die?

Yes Tom 0,7 sec. improvement. Did not thought I could do it (it was a little fly and die), but I kept on rowing and I did it. Next time more improvement.

Thanks Dougie. My goal is sub 7 by January of next year, so I'm trying to knock off 0.1 seconds a week.

Saw your 1:35.7 for 500. Fantastic and really well done!

I must be doing something wrong. Since my 1:38.7 in late January I have tried twice for 1:36 and just can't seem to hold it under 1:39. Can't get the speed. I noticed yesterday that I was quite comfortably holding 1:50 and even the occasional 1:49 at 27 SPM. But when I try to translate the power to 31 - 32 SPM to get to a 1:36 (at 10 m/stroke), I almost fall off the seat. Any advice? Every third week I do 7 x 500 and am down to a roughly 1:48.5 average with the last piece under 1:47, so I am training for a little speed. I just can't seem to get the "real" speed I had that one day in January, even after 1M meters between then and now.
