It made me wonder how he would describe the stern. Unless maybe it was a Virus:mikvan52 wrote:Rocket Roy wrote: the pointy end

Could be a Janousek training 2x, or a Janousek coastal 2x (these last don't have a conventional stern):

No Nav, It had a long end piece so front and back looked the same.
Nor a virus,( I thought he meant computer virus
) just a standard 2x
Back in the boat at 3pm tomorrow, low tide time. My first time out was with a high tide with a strong wind, quite choppy.

Re: Ranger's training thread
This one has two pointy ends:
I believe it's called a pushmepullyou-type double. It's related to Ranger's boat, which I gather is a Doolittle....

Doubles are great fun. So are quads. Sweep rowing is also fun. It's all fun. It's good you are starting with sculling. If you can scull it is not hard to get in a large boat such as a four or eight and do sweep rowing, the most common mistake being feathering with the wrong hand, but that is easily corrected. Going from sweep rowing to sculling is sometimes more of a challenge. On the other hand, I have seen some collegiate rowers get into singles for the first time and after a few minutes looking like they have been sculling all their lives.
Since you are getting instructions, I am sure you are already sculling better than Ranger, who believes nobody in his age group is sculling better than he is, although he has never completed a race in his single.

Re: Ranger's training thread
Hi Byron,
It's thanks to you that I have taken to the water. And you are right the sooner the better. I should have done it years ago.....
I hope to keep getting on the water all through the year and by next year enter some comp's. HOC maybe???
This is what I'm aiming for...

What are those sticks called that you hold in your hands and wave in the air before you start swimming?

One only needs to pull 10.6 SPI to land a WR...........ranger wrote:Looks like Dan's pullin' 8 SPI.Rocket Roy wrote:

Sure.Tinpusher wrote:You sit in front of a keyboard for hours on end claiming to be the best at something but recently failing to produce one scrap of evidence in support of that statement. "Just wait for the FM trial" you've been saying ad nauseum and still we wait.
I have been learning to row well, and when I am finally ready to race, it is going to make a huge difference.
When I do the FM @ 1:48 over the next month or so, it will be a dozen seconds per 500m faster than anyone my age and weight has rowed for the distance, six seconds per 500m faster than those my age who are hugely bigger, like Oesterling, who is 6'5", 230 lbs., six seconds per 500m faster than I was able to do myself ten years ago, even though the normal decline with age among veterans is four seconds per 500m a decade.
A FM @ 1:48 predicts a 6:16 2K, 26 seconds under the current 60s lwt 2K WR, 22 seconds under the current 55s lwt 2K WR, nine seconds under the current 50s lwt 2K WR, and a second under the current 40s lwt 2K WR.
But that promise/prediction/goal has nothing to do with being the best for my age and weight over the last decade. That's just based on my race record, despite the fact that for the last eight years, I haven't even been preparing to race. I have had the best 2K for my age and weight for five out of the last nine years, with sub-6:30 rows as a heavyweight in two of the other years, three sub-6:30 WR lwt rows, and golds at all of the major championships, BIRC twice.

You must learn not to judge others by your own standards.
