Ranger's training thread
Re: Ranger's training thread
ranger has reported here that he's sent away for a "big boy's" monitor for the Windbagger.
Its face will look like the photo below.
It will be able to:
1: count all the strokes he take
2: record average pace
3: record splits in just about any way he likes
4: program complicated workouts
5: provide accurate stroke rate date
6: time pieces of any specified length
... just to list a few features
All this is stored in an ample memory that does not get lost if the monitor is turned off...
And (!) You know what:
None of this will be reported here... Why? ...because the prof' is slow as molasses in a boat... even though "his technique work is done" and "(he) just needs to raise his rate".
Prove me wrong, Kemo Sabe... : report some training.
You'll be able to show 3 strokes at 1:55 (any rate) but you won't be able show 120 at 1:55 (any rate)... much less 1k at 1:50 pace...

That's why I only asked him about his slow times in 2009 and 2010.
I assume that he is _waaay_ slower than that now, given that he hasn't even been rowing.

What if the 60s lwt WR becomes 6:16?
It'll be pretty funny.....

How many drinks does it take to propose such nonsense?

I don't know about _heavy_ drinking, but, sure, a couple of beers were nice floating around on the water this afternoon given that I did 30K of rowing before 9 a.m.mikvan52 wrote:I guess the heavy drinking started early this afternoon....
Great stuff.

This is a ranger training thread... take your musings elsewhere...ranger wrote:Sure.bellboy wrote:As you well know Roy has been on his bike for the last two years.
That's why I only asked him ... (blah)
Why avoid the issue of ranger training failure?.. ie: Its inability to produce any records whatsoever.....

Hey, Mike, is this new gizmo of mine hard to work?
I need to read the instructions and get introduced.

Clarification of response needed...ranger wrote:I don't know about _heavy_ drinking, but, sure, a couple of beers were nice floating around on the water this afternoon given that I did 30K of rowing before 9 a.m.mikvan52 wrote:I guess the heavy drinking started early this afternoon....

Is juice lady around to edit your response so it makes any sense whatsoever?
Re: Ranger's training thread
The best way to learn its operation is to mount it in the 1x and experiment, manual in hand.. Why not put the instructions in a baggie so they don't get wet...ranger wrote:Hey, Mike, is this new gizmo of mine hard to work?
I need to read the instructions and get introduced.
The "Just Row" function is easiest to learn...
The device is menu driven which makes things quite easy...
It will need to be calibrated as the factory sets it at 1.000 and Fluid hulls do not test true at this value.
Re: Ranger's training thread
Actually, a 1K, 1:55 @ 30 spm, should be pretty easy now.mikvan52 wrote:You'll be able to show 3 strokes at 1:55 (any rate) but you won't be able show 120 at 1:55 (any rate)
When I am fully trained up for it, I think I will rate 36-38 spm for 1K.
I will rate 30 spm for 5K.
No reason to go anywhere very fast at the moment, though.
My first goal this summer, overall, is a daily regimen of 20K OTErg just before dawn, followed by 20K OTW just after dawn.
First things first.
Mike VB thinks that it isn't good to work hard in training for rowing; but if you will excuse me, I tend to think otherwise.
There is some evidence, here and there, that I am right about this.

My statement remains clear (to me)
You cannot maintain 1:55 for 1k in a single right now.
Throw out the "should"...
Forget about rate....
JFDI or die trying

Thanks for the info.
What calibration do you use?

Re: Ranger's training thread
Additionally:
You can now set your new NK to record each and every stroke... It will show what you do for as many as you take.
AND: each stroke can be recalled from memory...
pretty scary, huh? No ranger BS anymore...

Re: Ranger's training thread
Yep, I can.mikvan52 wrote:You cannot maintain 1:55 for 1k in a single right now.
I just need to rate 30 spm.
I think I'll rate 30 spm at head races this fall, including the Head of the Charles.
If I was counting it out right today, in my Fluid, I think I am in an elegant 2-to-1 ratio when I am rating 30 spm, doing 1:54.
OTErg, pulling 12 SPI at 120 df., I am in a 3-to-1 ratio when I am rating 30 spm, doing 1:39.
OTErg, pulling 9.3 SPI at 128 df., Rocket Roy is in a 2-to-1 ratio when he is rating 30 spm, doing 1:48.

Nope, not at all.mikvan52 wrote:Funny=Strange= not possible ...ever...unless a drug and hormone therapy is introduced
I now pull 12 SPI, stroking easily.
So, to pull 6:16, I just need to rate 34 spm, like everyone else.
I have already done a 2K @ 12 SPI, rating 32 spm, without even preparing for it, and even so, still struggling with technique.
