For all the above reason, I hope C2 will recognize results only from sactioned 100m races as World Records, just as for the 2K. But I doubt they will, because such races barely exist. And even if 100m races were incorporated into current 2K competitions, most coaches would not want their rowers to risk injury.

While they are available on the list of ranked events, the 4' and 100km are also on that list and have been for quite some time. The WR list just has the 10 events, the 8 for distance ranging from 0.5km to the FM and only 2 for time, 0.5 hr and 1.0 hr. The 4' and 100km haven't been on that list, sanctioned or not.

Hey guys... Sorry for the noob question (although I am a C2 and rowing noob!), but with regards to these sprint challenges (and all other challenges, come to that), how do you go about submitting a time? I have the PM5 which is connected to ErgData on my Android phone, so everything goes into the Logbook automatically... Does any piece over 100m / 1 minute automatically submit, or do I need to do something extra?

Obviously my times are going to be nowhere close to the leaders, but I thought it would be fun to take part and get involved.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give :)

It logs from your logbook, you need to have an account, put it in there and log the piece.

Get the C2 logbook up on your PC or blabslab and look at your logged rows. To the right of a rankable result, find box containing "RANK' in red letters and click there. Then go to "Ranked Workkouts" box in line of boxes top of page and click there to view your summary of ranked pieces. From there to "Rankings" toward the left of the line of boxes. Click that box and enter your personal data to view a ranked list of those particpating in your group based on your age, weight, and sex.

I do all of my ranked pieces with a verification code, shows up as IND_V in the rankings. Cheating is always a possibility, but if someone competes on a regular basis and has decent public showings along with IND_V or C2 log, you'd have to consider them as legit. My PR's are usually done at the gym, just for the extra motivation of other people watching.

Technique is huge on the 100m. I tried the short quick racing starts and best I could do was 18.0. Last night I decided to go with my usual long stroke style and drive it down as deep as I could and got down to 17.5s. Ended up with 522w at 55r, so around 9.5 w/s. For me (light, not real strong, old man) I just can't generate enough power pulling with the arms; need to drive it down with a full stroke.

I agree - prefer long strokes from the start and use legs back and arms to get it all moving. Always faster in the gym too with others around for me.
(also use IND_V code for all ranking pieces)

To everyone else, do not take this warning lightly. These sprints can do serious damage to your back if you are not well prepared.

I was a weightlifter and powerlifter for a long time in my youth, so I have a well prepared back. But I will not attempt these sprints until I have at least 3 months of Hyper Extensions, power cleans and deadlifts under my belt.

Now nearing 60, my goal is to repeat my best 100 at 15.5 seconds

To Butch91, I hope you recover fully from your attempt

Proper warmup, proper posture, strong legs, full stroke, good judgement. Might not lead to the best times but to the best times without risking too much with regards to injuries. I am happy with anything in the top 25%.

Yeah, I'm never going to try this now.

This is an experienced rower who trashed his back doing it.

WOW... Paul, you're a bit of a hero to me, hope to see you back to your record setting/breaking self soon!

These sprints are not for the weak, I will admit that for sure... I have gotten down to 16.5sec, but haven't had the back issues (likley due to the weigth work and gymnastics background), but I can certainly see where it can happen.

These short distances are nothing like the longer ones, only similiarity is the machine... much different technique. While I'd LOVE to take longer strokes, I loose to much time 'coming back' for the next pull, so the shorter, back/arm pulls are necessary.

It's a game of .1ths of a second, and everything matters.

The 100M sprint at least gives me the opportunity for some full length pulls, not many...

One day I may meet you all in Boston....

Anything maximum effort takes its toll on you.... takes a great deal if preparation to get your back in the right shape to do this and even STILL you can suffer injuries.

Actually a not well prepared rower....

Paul ergs a lot, but his training is focused at endurance, he also does no serious weightswork.

But like Ross says, nomatter what, sprinting on the erg is tough and at any time a bodypart can give in.
