Re: I sit naked before you
In my previous post I mistakenly referred to erg trainer Terry Smythe as "Ms. Styler." Memory bad as always. I edited to correct subsequent to Mr. Bob's post; no reason for edit block so acknowledging change here. Jack

Re: I sit naked before you
g-dub, I started sculling lessons late last summer, and my coach gave me a "strap drill" similar to this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AckA_oad9U (this strap seems a little longer), and also this one - http://slab500.com/tbfit/images/resourc ... pdrill.pdf .At the quarter slide the strap should be taut, and as you move into the catch the strap should remain taut. Break the arms too early and the strap goes slack. Hope that helps.

Neat idea Mr Squirrel. Having feedback like the strap seems like it would be very helpful. Thanks. Between you, MG668, and Our favorite Dutchman, Citroen, Jack, Dennis and Cyclingman, I have plenty to work with now. Before you know it I'll be rowing like, well, a rower hopefully.

Apart from that wrist trick (relax, erging is hard enough as it is, you don't need to feather your sculls here), your only problem is that your feet are high. Stretcher height is the only thing we can adjust to get our geometry right. Too high is uncomfortable and causes lots of problems, rotating us backwards so that we can't get the weight onto our feet and stopping us putting everything into the catch with the legs. This consequently is a bit slow even trying to compensate with shoulders or an early arm pull.
Your times are good anyway: a 2k at about 300W for a fit weight (based on height) of 70-75kg is 4W/kg. Maybe you can train in more comfort.

Interesting James, I will drop them a hole and give it a whirl. I was trying the strap idea Squirrel shared and I noticed that once I couldn't over reach at the catch due to the strap and my back angle holding me back, I was pretty far away from where the chain comes out, so lowering the feet will get me longer there. Oh vey, the good news is that focusing on technique makes the time go faster! And hopefully will allow at least 9 seconds to come off my 2K.

A problem with submitted videos is that they are almost always being done at a slow pace. As a 7:08 2Ker, we need a video done at 1:47/500m. I wonder if this is how you really row? I say that because of the seeming absence of power. I suspect more is put into your 2K efforts than is being displayed here. You definitely need to get the back/arm timing and movement thing straightened out. 7:00 should be in sight.

This was about 1:55 - 1:57. And I think the Rate was a titch higher for that pace than normal by 1-2 strokes. This was at 27-28. I would normally be at 25-26 ish. Anyway, I'm getting things sorted out. Thanks for the input.
