Hi Randy,

Sorry to bother you with what may be a frequently repeated question, but ...

The spreadsheet you've posted (which BTW, I had no problem downloading and is a wonderful aid) does its calculations in terms of %MHRR; the UK interactive guides, as of this date, still provide their guidance in terms of %MHR. Did I understand you correctly back in your 2008 posts that the UK programmes were going to switch to %MHRR also, so everything would be compatible?

I ask because I'm getting a bit confused with the spreadsheet showing (for example) UT2 as 65-70% MHRR, while the UK guides for Interactive Weight Loss and Rapid Fitness Training show UT2 (in the Training Band Key) as 55-70% MHR.

I'm a 63 yo male, with a RHR of 72, so I get the following numbers:

RHR 72
MHR 163
HRR 91
Spreadsheet: UT2 65-70% MHRR 131-136
UK Guides: UT2 55-70% MHR 90-114

That's a fairly significant difference ... any suggestions on what to change so that they spreadsheet and the guides (both for weight and for fitness training) are consistent?

Regards,

JasonZ

How did you put that spreadsheet out onto the web again as rowing.servebeer.com/Heart_Rate.xl ?
rowing.servebeer.com is a virtual host on my webserver running on my Ubuntu computer that sits under the desk in my home office.

If you want a place to play build a blog on http://wordpress.com, http://posterous.com or http://blogger.com - you can host file attachments on most blogging services.

If you want to play with a personal website try webs.com
hahaha - rocking man!

Love it, but I have a question like JasonZ MIT - the calcs?

The Interactive 2k uses HRReserve saying:

HRR% = Heart Rate Reserve (HRR) is the term used to describe the difference between a person's maximum (MHR) and resting heart rate (RHR). To calculate the training zones we use the following formula: Heart rate = (HRR * percentage) + RHR.

The fast-track and the weight-loss schedules say MHR, but show no values; so use Reserve as above.

HR training is dodgy anyway: a max test is needed as average formulae are not applicable to single persons; I doubt whether bands drop with age, although MHR certainly does; HR drift. So once we've learnt to row, we can use the other guides (paces, sensations, sweat, rating etc), although HR would have the advantage of automatic update.

How do I get hold of the spreadsheet you are talking about I would like to use it as I have just started training again
after 15 years
Just got concept2 model C out of the basement
It worked first time just by simply adding a bit of oil onto the chain

I have just had my first look at the online interactive planner and I love it! However I'm a 49 year old interested in joining fellow university alumni in a head race, so my training goal is 5k, not 2k. Is it possible to make some basic changes to the math of the planner to allow for the 5k training goal, or is it more complicated than that?

Thank you!

hi all,

I was using the interactive training page on the C2 website for my training. But I just saw that the site has been upgraded and the Interactive training page removed. Worse, it does not seem to be included in the new website.

Any ideas? Is there anyone I can contact to ask to bring it back? It has helped me a lot achieve my goals, without spending hours looking for training protocols on the internet or hiring a coach.

Many thanks

Apparently, concept2 has changed their structure in the uk. The old team of concept2 folds have formed a company that sells concept2 ergs and other gear, and concept2 has its own direct website. Not sure why it changed.

I started following this training plan to train for the 2014 CRASH-Bs on February 16. I'm really not used to heart rate training and find it hard to target particular heart rates; I'm much more used to targeting particular 500 meter splits.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet!
Other PBs: 1k @ 1:39.9 (March 2015).
