Confused about settling on a reasonable 2k pace

General discussion on Training. How to get better on your erg, how to use your erg to get better at another sport, or anything else about improving your abilities.

Anyway, colour me confused and any advice would be much appreciated!
If you have a target, use it. Training for 2k has to be progressive: first develop the necessary stroke via technique and strength, then use it at increasing rates and shortening distances.

This is seen in the 200-odd Interactive tables which are still around on the net somewhere.

The math is simple if you use Watts. For example: a 7' 2k is 300W. So if done at rate 30, the stroke has to be worth 10W' (= W/rate).

7:20 is 110s or 1:50 pace and 260W and quite a bit easier. If you can pull a 10W stroke without dying half way, rate 26 would be enough.

Late 2024: stroke 4W-min@20-22.

Result:
1:49.2 t30
1:49.5 t29
1:49.7 t29
1:49.3 t30

Let's hope it translates, because I would be very happy with a sub 7:20 2k as a first test! And to prove Sakly wrong ofc haha.
I assume that this is 4 x 1k? Doing the second fastest interval for the last one is a great sign.

I would say this says settle to 1:50 pace and try and hold it then accelerate when you are able in the last 500. Good luck!
