FWIW I have been lucky enough to have done a full on VO2 max on the erg at the AIS at 65yo = 43.7 ml/kg/min (which is pretty good I guess altho they don't have enough data to really rank it). From memory the C2 table suggested way higher than that - maybe high 50s early 60s?
Clearly the table is not reliable at all for all the reasons Allan has identified and is best ignored.
I reckon just having a 2k time to log puts us all in the excellent class
