HJS if you do not mind me asking, what is wrong with your back? I have a lot of experience working with athletes and two of my brothers are Rolfers maybe I could offer you some helpful advice. If someone said there was €1,000,000 under a rock in your yard and the first rock you looked under did not have the money would you stop looking under the rocks.

<1:21 HM
>8200m for 30mins
<6:45 for 2K
<37 min 10K and >15900m for 60mins

...in that order. The only reason I've been slack of late with the erg is because I've been prioritising weights.

Not at all

Long story, short cut, had an accident, fell from a roof, broke parts around l3/4, the disc inbetween always is tender, sometimes its really wrong. Its never painfree.
Have been operated twice, which was very tough and did not help one bit. I maybe should have l3/4 put together and get the disc removed. Operations where long ego, 20 year orso.

Other option would be to be super carefull and stop with lots of things. Which I have in many ways, but around everything apart from a year after my first operation I always have been doing some kind of training. At the moment I do train, but only long work and weights only light.

Stuff like running/jumping/throwing which I liked a lot, are 100% over and out.

well - the years are making an appearance and next year i'm entering a new age group.
As a celebration I was even thinking about going to crashb /etc. next year at the turn of the half century.

I suppose that this might mean doing some speed work (yuk).

so I guess my goals are:
2000m < 6:40
5000m < 17:30
10000m < 36:30
...
...
...
oh and the ...*coff* 24 hour mixed tandem 50-59 world record... *coff* >320000m

Have you ever used a Reverse Hyper machine a lot of people with similar type injuries have had great success with this exercise, it can be done without the machine but you do need a high enough platform so that the legs are suspended.
Louie Simmons who invented the reverse hyper had broken his lower back and it is what inspired the machine.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=i9tU7_w7rvw
Do some extra research on the exercise there is a lot of good info out there one of my Rolfer brothers bought a reverse hyper for his clients and personal use. Given the nature of your injury I thought this one of the better exercises to try if you have not already.

Cheers, know of it, over here I have never seen machines like those. I have tried improviced stuff, but its not so easy to mimic. Should look around in my gym to see if I can improvice and mimic that movement.

That sucks Henry.

The way we used to improvise reverse hypers in my university powerlifting club was using a swiss ball and a bench press bench. Wasn't perfect but it allowed you to do the basic movement.

Yes, but you get used to it, it becomes the new "normal".

In my gym, we have those "crossfit" classes, they use all stuff which isn,t a barbell or machine, including gym space... But will have a look what I can use / "steal"

Blimey Henry, I didn't realise quite how bad your back issue was. I hope 2018 brings some relief for you

2018 is a year for testing all of my PBs between 2k and FM.

2k I'd like to get circa 6:30- 6:35, I have no idea if this is possible as it's been circa 7 years since my last year, but I know I can fairly comfortably pull at 1:40.

10k I'm aiming for sub 36mins but this is a real mental block as I've done so many 10k sessions and they weren't ever close to sub 36.

5k I'd like to get circa 17:30 and I've never done a 6k.

HM sub 78mins would be great and FM I need a sub 2:45 time as I know I've got it in me but I keep messing up the strategy.

I might try the 100km again as I know I can do better than that, but we'll see. Aiming for 7:25 If I do try again

Best of luck to all of you in whatever targets you set for yourself, no matter how 'modest' you may perceive them to be; in reality PBs are very personal and can't, and shouldn't be, compared from person to person. If you totally empty the tanks you have my utmost respect

Well said, I don't think many people on here are going to be world record breakers if any but we all still get that satisfaction when we beat that goal that a year ago we thought impossible.

@jmac - are you at a 7:10 2k right now or are you faster than that? I am working on my goals and see you have a 30 second decrease in your 2k time. That was my goal too, but I am wondering if its too much. Do you have a plan to get to that? Would love to hear more.

I think my signature was showing my old times! My current 2k PB is 6:50.

My plan is to run through a cycle of Pete Plan and attempt a 2k TT after that.

Cheers, but simply shows that even with pain it is possible to train, it has limited me though.
