Lycra doesn't get sopping wet with sweat like cotton . OTW same thing. Half the people at our boat house wear unis' so no big deal. With the cold weather I add an Under Armor top and cycling leg warmers, So far been out down to 35 degrees (F) and very comfortable.I also have a closet full of cycling gear which I pull from and a couple of tri-suits; very comfortable.
Were you on the forum when Byron Drachman was still posting here? He had fascinating stories about having to break the ice at the dock in order to get his single launched (equipped with safety pontoons for the winter). Part of his gear was pogies to protect his hands.

Note: I was about to switch this over to send it as a PM. I was concerned about hijacking. Then I noticed that the thread title included rowing and decided that it was not inappropriate.

Coming from a cycling background I find it much easier to stay warm while rowing. Much more work being done and the speeds are very modest compared to cycling. Rowing is similar to running in that respect. We have a determination that is made at our clubhouse when the water and air temps reach a certain point; no more singles or pairs, doubles and quads only. And with daylight saving time going away, this is the last week of evening OTW for me. A few more weekends and that's it. Perfect timing to start full-time erging.

I've tried the whole 'erging topless' thing but I find it makes my back get a bit itchy!

I've never had a problem with just wearing an all-in-one on the bottom half (rolled down) and a vest on the top half. If i'm in my work gym and not a more public one, I will wear football shorts over the top of the all-in-one for corporate decency around my bosses!
