Re: When do you erg your best...and why?
For anything other than a 2k, I erg best at home on my own. I usually train after work, so around 5:00-5:30 PM. Got my erg in the living room, usually watch TV or listen to music.
For a 2k, definitely do best in a competitive environment a la Crash-B's.

Re: When do you erg your best...and why?
I can't remember where I read it but I've read around 2 or 3 in the afternoon is optimum for performance. I do my best at lunch hour (but that's the best of only 3 options I have like most of us). I know my least favorite, by far, is evening.
I'm hoping I do better with competition. My only race was a 7 second PB. Like Henry mentioned, it was because of a taper and competition combined.

Afternoon racing is for the young, top rowers. Has-beens don't count. That applies to most of us on this forum. That is the way it should be in the overall picture.hjs wrote:
Races, I am tapered and best motivated. Big minus, races are always early in the morning which I find horrible. That always costs me time. End afternoon is prefered time for me.

In the end there are only 4 races that count, the overall m/f for both classes.
Re: When do you erg your best...and why?
I erg "best" (or better or maybe reasonably well given current decrepity level):
1. if I've followed a (my) standard taper: one or two days rest after a few short intervals after a year or so of slow but hardish aerobic.
2. mornings with plenty of coffee and a good warmup.
Why? No idea. However nothing else works, so not really interested why this does.

Early in the morning (0400) with my ipod - Sousa marches, Cecelia Bartoli, Patsy Cline, tangos - alone - gym at 0630 for 30 minutes weights then treadmill for 30 minutes. Can't seem to get motivated later in the day - too busy with naps (the most important part of my daily fitness routine)

Train best in the winter, always at home with erg outside whenever possible with shirt off no matter how cold.
All PBs set at home on my own apart from 2k which was at a regional race, think it was Enfield which is now long gone. Think the toughest distance was the 5k when done on the edge on your own.

North Yorkshire myself. Born and bred on the coast. Translocation to bavaria, where the winters are not so mild..nick rockliff wrote:Ha ha no, sub tropical North Yorkshirebisqeet wrote:I'm gueSsing you don't live in Siberia then..nick rockliff wrote:Train best in the winter, always at home with erg outside whenever possible with shirt off no matter how cold.
