Miss what? The weigh in? The FM @ 1:48 or 1:46? The 5K @ 1:48 (which we know you can't do)? 13SPI? 16SPI?

Do you forget that you're a heavyweight with a current 7:02.3 2K and you're getting slower?

If i could have just one wish in this life it would be that Von ManBatt recieves a violent, bowell releasing electric shock whenever he types the words "no veteran rower has ever rowed well". A statement so trite and baseless that i genuinely feel he should be banned for 24 hours every time he utters it.

Wow, you're now ready for a 1:46 FM!! My 80th birthday will be extremely special. This will be like Bob Beamon long jumping 45 feet. Usain Bolt running 8.5. I'm excited already.

Even though the special event is 40 years away, I think you'd have to be able to go at least 5k at 1:46/24 today correct? I mean, in your rowing with breaks routine you have to go at least 5k once in a while right?

Are you willing to make a wager that you can't show an IND_V 5k at 1:46/24 within the next week? Since you're doing it already, and it's only 1/8 of what you will do "right around the corner", seems like easy money. You could take pleasure in my paying your whiskey bill for a week or so. Well, I've got money but maybe not that much.

Simply wager, we each send $100 to an agreed upon third party who could I.M. their address to us. You then have a few days (which of course would be very specifically stated in writing) to simply record a small portion of what you do every day anyway. Show it and you get my $100. Fail to do so for any reason and they mail me the $200.

You'd be foolish not to take my money. If you take my money it's worth the small investment to show the world you are in fact at least 1/8 of the way to your goal after 5 years of training. If you fail to take my money it shows everybody what a complete fraud you are for the 1000th time.

You have 48 hours. At 5:15pm CST, Friday, June 17th the offer expires. If you accept prior to that time, you have 48 hours from then to show the IND_V 5k at 1:46 with an average stroke rate not higher than 24 from your PM4 monitor. Obviously with your track record there must be video evidence of you on the erg, completing the 5k with the same data that your IND_V ranked piece shows. IND_V ranked piece and video due by 5:15 CST, Sunday, June 19th.

Best of luck, I hope to part with $100 this weekend.

Haven't tuned in for a while and just noticed that a Rocket Roy, age 60, from GBR posted a 10K time in the 2012 rankings.

It's quite respectable so early in the season and is sure to get much better after some distance rows for conditioning followed by several weeks of hard sharpening before race season. It's much better than anything I've seen posted by Ranger.

Does anyone know if this is THE Rocket Roy and if he will be competing in races this year?

It is THE Rocket Roy. He's switched from road cycling to track cycling and is back on the ergo.
See his recent entries: http://concept2.co.uk/forum/blog.php?u=2491 for his daily reports.

Yea.

I can now pull with enough stroking power at 120 df. to do what I need to do for 30'r20 to predict my 2K target (1:34/6:16).

Couldn't do that before.

My technique wasn't good enough.

The 60s lwt 2K Amercan record is 1:44/6:56.

To predict the 60s lwt 2K Amercan record, I would have to pull 30'r20 @ 1:57.

So, if I pull 1:47 for 30'r20, that predicts right around my 2K target (1:34/6:16).

1:47 @ 20 spm is right around 14 SPI.

With the rate cut back to 20 spm, I now pull 14 SPI just naturally.

At the lower rate, I have time to get a little extra length at the catch and a little more speed on the finish.

My ratios now at 120 df. are very even and easy to lock into.

Given the low drag, high stroking power, and my short little lightweight legs, my drive time is only .5 seconds.

With a drive time of .5 seconds, my ratios are these:

20 spm is 5-to-1.

25 spm is 4-to-1.

30 spm is 3-to-1.

40 spm is 2-to-1.

It has always struck me as curious how you post something you are "capable" of ... which brings call for "show me" ... which puts you in a position of having to supply "proof" ... which you can't.

Wouldn't it be much easier if you started with a erg piece you have actually done? Fully quantified?

I suspect if you did everyone would laugh and walk away ... which is what you fear most I think.

Which just shows what an abstract concept "stroking power" is.

Can you row 5K @ 1:48 at any rate? No.

Can you row 30' @ 1:47 at any rate? No, obviously.

Can you row 30' @ 1:47 at 20 spm? No, absolutely not.

Can you row a 6:16 2K?

Are you a total fcukwit? Absolutely.

Gentlemen, not only is this a day to watch the lunar eclipse (cloudy skies permitting), it's also a day to celebrate another momentus occasion.

Our hero appears to have declared a new virtual personal best time.

There we have it: a virtual FM in 2hrs 30 @ 1:46.6.

If he ever turns that into a real FM I'll be down the gym with a bag of french fries, a knife, a fork, salt, pepper and bottle of worcestershire sauce ready to eat a Concept2 seat pad with all the trimmings. I think it's safe to say that supper won't ever be eaten.
Hi Dougie,

As recently as April Ranger's VPB was a FM@1:44. Can it be that age is finally taking its toll on our intrepid hero? His virtual FM has slowed down recently. It is sad to see. Perhaps he is not training correctly. Maybe it is improper nutrition. More bread, cheese, wine, and lots more beer might help our hero get back to his faster virtual FM.

I, on the other hand, continue to run a virtual mile in less than four minutes. My virtual mile is just as fast as it ever was.
Ranger wrote:March 28, 2011: I'll row a FM trial in about a month and track my HR as I do it.

April 2, 2011: The FM trial that I am training for now will be my first race rowing at 95 df. When I get around to it, it looks as though I will try to hold 1:44 @ 27 spm (11.5 SPI) for the 42K.

April 8, 2011: Because I now row well (11.5 SPI) at low drag (95 df.), I am going to pull a FM @ 1:46.

April 21, 2011: We'll see when I do my FM trial. 1:48 @ 23-25 spm for a FM predicts a 6:16 2K.
I don't know, but I think I might pull 1:46. That would predict a 6:08 2K.

Nope.

Stroking power is the foundation of all of the major training plans (IP plan, WP, etc.) although they don't describe it that way.

I don't know.

I'll have to give it a go.

I might try a lot of 30' rows at 20 spm from here on out, at various levels of effort.

UT2 should be 1:52 @ 20 spm (12.5 SPI).

30'r20 is a top-end AT row.

There are many sorts of rows in between: low UT1, UT1, high UT1, low AT, etc.

At 20 spm, I am in a 5-to-1 ratio.

.5 seconds for the drive.

2.5 seconds for the recovery.

1:57 for 30'r20 predicts the 60s lwt 2K American record.
